I heard that the PNC bank buidling has been sold!
Does anyone know if that is true and who might be moving in?
With all of the vacancies downtown (3 storefronts, Hannah & Masons and PNC), it would be great to see some progress with the PNC building. |

Sweetwater Construction has bought the PNC bank building. They are already located in Cranbury - out near the turnpike- and must move due to the widening project. So, it will be an office building. |

I saw them removing the Time Capsule from the wall near the old drive-up windows. I wonder where it's going? |

Great news! I think it will be wonderful for the businesses in town to have a larger office building right downtown to bring in more customers. I think the problem for growth downtown has always been not having a large enough customer base. This is good news. |

Will Sweetwater assume the entire floor space or will some of the space be parsed out to retail? Does having Sweetwater in the building raise the possibility of more downtown activity or would it be better to have some shops take over some of the space? |

As I understand it they will occupy the whole building if the deal goes through. The plus is that they are a stable firm and will bring in customers for the restaurants. The downside is that we're losing a lot of retail and replacing it with offices. That means the attraction of customers to the downtown area is less.
I would love to see the town work with the businesses and make our town a destination place where people want to come and walk around. If I look at a lot of towns they go out of their way to decorate at Christmas and make their down town a place people want to walk and spend time. |

That was exactly my point. I would think that going the way of new retail shops and possibly adding a deli or fish/meat market, would offer the greatest attraction in bringing people to Main Street. |

Agree 100%. I went to a town in NC the other day small as Cranbury. They had a butcher and they also had a deli. The stores had a lot of people in them. |

The problem is that our small town is close to other shopping destinations (lots of competition for customers).
The shop owner will need to answer this question: why would the customers come to my store? |
