Come out to show support for Sean Cox to remain as a Teacher and Coach at Cranbury School!

He has been a positive influence in our school community and continues to make a difference with our students!

Please show the Board of Education that Cranbury wants Sean Cox to stay by attending the meeting on:

Tuesday June 15th at 7 PM in the Large Group Room of Cranbury School!

I am not the OP but the rumors I heard was that he was up for tenure next year and that rather than give him tenure when they are having budget troubles they decided to let him go and get a new (possibly part-time) p.e. teacher. Besides p.e. and health, he's a (from what I have seen firsthand) talented performer who plays guitar and sings at a lot of the school functions like the talent shows and drug free fair. There well could be more to it though since what I heard was just parent talk.

This is the problem with tenure. I agree in not giving a teacher tenure at this point because the school looses flexibility. However, the problem is that we lose a talented teacher who could be valuable in the future.

Tenure creates more problems then it solves and the people who suffer are the teachers who are up and the children.

I heard the same rumor but I also heard that they don't have to give him tenure yet. Why not just give him the option to stay and defer tenure until a year or two?

The problem here is the Principal Haney. Haney needs to go not Sean Cox.

Sounds like the typical Cranbury rumor mill. Who actually KNOWS the situation? Probably only Cox and Haney and the school board. Not all the teachers and not all the parents. How can you support or not support without all the facts?

Regarding Sean, I know that he has been a PE/Coach (soccer, wrestling, baseball) for the past three years and that wrestling will not be offered next year due to budget cuts. Sean was hired from Millstone Middle School to start a Cranbury wrestling program and take over for former teacher and Coach Silva. As a parent of two Cranbury students who have had him both as a teacher and Coach, my views on Sean are mixed. I do not know anything regarding as the situation regarding Cranbury School and Sean. This is news to me. I will say that asking for tenure, if true, seems ambitious and unwise during the fiscal times that we are currently going through.

Tenur is automatic and cannot be deferred IF the teacher is rehired and works 3 years and one day. Personell decisions are confidential for good reason. Sean Cox appears to want to take the process public, which is probably not a good idea for a board or a teacher.

Why do you assume Mr. Cox is taking it public?

Here's the truth. Because of budget cuts Mr. Cox was first told in early March that he would be working at 75% and still have a job. He was then told before spring break that he would still be 75% but that he was insensitive to kids and would have to take sensitivity training next year plus have to pay for it out of his own pocket. This was because of one incident that happened with a Board Member's kid in December. It was never addressed by Mr. Haney until March and the incident that did occur was taken care of by Mr. Cox the day after it happened. By contract, Mr. Haney only has 5 days after a student incident to make it an issue and December to March is more than 5 days. Finally, at the beginning of May, Mr. Cox was told that he was not an excellent teacher and that he did not live up to the standards of a Cranbury teacher. At this point he was told that he was not going to be rehired. Mr. Cox's end of the year evaluations are very good and there have been no issues with his job performance or sensitivity to kids until March 2010. I hope this explains some things.

I support Sean Cox 100% - 1 negative remark that was handeled within 24 hours, and he due for tenure in early September.

Word is getting out about the meeting on Tuesday thru the grapevine and now on the forum.

As a parent at the school and and having a child (ren) who want to speak up for him. My question is, are their any students who are going to be speaking up or want to speak on their postivie thoughts of Sean Cox at the mtg on Tuesday?[/b]
