LAKEWOOD — Lakewood police issued 21 tickets to school bus drivers Wednesday following a series of complaints, according to a report on APP.com.
Most of the tickets (14) were for failure to wear a seat belt. Three were for cell phone violations, two for red light violations and one each for a stop sign violation and failure to exhibit insurance documents, the report said.
Friday, the Lakewood Board of Education voted to take 15 routes away from the its carrier, Negba Bus Service of Linden, following a series of problems ranging from safety violations to late arrivals. |

Company that offers the lowest bid means we pay less; it does not imply a good service. Common sense tells me sometimes we need to pay more to get a better service.
Or a company that offers a bad service should be blocked from future bidding. |

I agree, remember the problems from the last couple years when we went with lowest bid? Half the bus drivers did not even speak English as I recall. I'm glad the old drivers are back. |

The company in the article "Negba Bus Service of Linden" is the same company we use in Cranbury. Does anyone see a problem with this? |

Our bus driver is a local Cranbury resident. She's pretty vested in the kids safety especially given her local ties. |

If u want total control of the school buses then the school board should buy their own buses and hire bus drivers who are employees of the school district. I know this is not a popular opinion because public employees are the axis of evil right now. The bottom line of private industry is always profit, not safety. |

Providing a non-safe busing service is a profitable business? If so, I think our way of choosing a school bus company is wrong. |

define "safe". This is done by law through a lowest bid process. This process in general is good at preventing fraud, but does it provide the best service? Obviously not. All bus company's bid on more routes than they can handle. If they are lucky enough (and we are unlucky enough) to win a majority of their bids, then they scramble to get enough equipment and drivers to fulfill their contracts. Don't blame the player, blame the game. All of the problems with this company have occurred before with the other major companies in this area. It is the process. |

The last posters are 100 percent correct. It is a faulty process. There is a reason that certain publlic services don't( or shouldn't )go out to bid to private for profit companies. ie police departments and fire departments. Perhaps school bus companies should be in this category. |

I agree. When you go with private companies you lose all standards of professionalism and accountability. |

Right, because getting public employees who in this State will quickly unionize, get incredible benefits tand become nearly impossible to replace if they don't do good work will be way more accountable and professional.
No thanks, Wayne DeAngelo. |

it is well established that all public employees and unions are the bastians of evil, especially in New Jersey. The reality is that private school bus companies, with lower paid non union employees, only care about making a profit. You get what u pay for. |
