Anyone know what was happening in town earlier today? I heard the school was briefly locked down. Any info?

Please explain - not trying to make a big deal of it. But I'd like to know what prompted a school lock down, even briefly.

Email from school:

"At approximately 9:30 a.m. on May 17, 2011, the Cranbury Police Chief notified the school of a reported issue in town and requested that the school implement a lock out procedure (all doors into the school are immediately locked and no one may enter the building).

Within 10 minutes, the Police Chief notified the school that the report was a false alarm and no danger was present. Consequently, staff and students were unaware of this brief lock out and maintained a regular daily routine...."

But that still doesn't say anything about what the issue was. The previous poster implied they knew but never followed-up with any explanation.

If everyone knew every little thing that went on in town, we would not be so quick to say "our safe little Cranbury"

I call BS. I have no idea what the issue was but I don't think the poster who keeps teasing that they do without giving any specifics does either. They're just messing with people.

I have no idea what the issue is/was. However, I would agree with this prior comment. At the TC meetings Mr. Taylor who is responsible for the Police management has been reporting the issues. Here are excerpts from the notes. As the above poster said, we clearly are not just safe little Main St.

April 25th TC meeting notes

Mr. Taylor reported there were 21 crashes in the Township, and the Detective Bureau had 21 new investigations and closed ten (10) investigations. Two students began the Intern Program and are currently working on the alarm registration project. Mr. Taylor reported the CERT team is being reorganized and plans have begun to activate members for events this year. The OEM has started meetings with FEMA to obtain federal assistance for the 2010 blizzard. Mr. Taylor stated Officer Jeffrey Morley concluded another successful DARE program with 78 fifth grade students graduating from the Cranbury Township DARE program. Mr. Taylor reported for the month of March: 15 arrests, three (3) driving while intoxicated, one (1) burglary, eight theft/shoplifting, ten (10) warrants, one (1) CDS (drugs), and 55 unfounded burglar alarms.

March 14th TC meeting

The Detective Bureau conducted 12 investigations this month, and seven (7) were closed.

Primary incidents for the month include eight arrests, five (5) DWIs, one (1) burglary, two (2) theft/shoplifting, three (3) warrants, and two (2) CDS arrests.

What exactly about these stats are supposed to be scary or suggest that Cranbury is not a relatively safe place to live? This is the real world and there is no Utopia. !@#$ happens. But these stats are pretty minor, even more so when you consider that they don't differentiate between what part of town they were reported in, like how many of the accidents were on Route 130 or how many of the burglaries were in the warehouse district.

Stats aren't scary they just are what they are. Cranbury is a "safe" town. Even "safe" towns have burglaries, drunk drivers, drugs, etc.. Thats why we have police. No big deal.

I'd like to know the answer to the original post about the police activity and short school lock down earlier in the week. Does anyone know the cause?

Apparently no one who posts here is willing to share them if anyone knows. Perhaps the Press will cover it, though I wouldn't count on it unless someone specifically alerted them to the issue.

No one is saying Cranbury isn't safe. The stats simply show that there is activity here that most people don't think of happening. If you already assumed that we had crime and activity then the stats should not surprise you.

However, for those who think Cranbury is simply Main St with nothing ever happening then they are wrong. 21 investigations, warrant arrests, etc... all happen here like every where else. Whether it takes place on 130 or in town is not important. Do you think let's say a gang activity in a warehouse would lead someone to say okay I'll keep my activity here and not dare go onto Main St?

Ok. But did anyone really think that? I would be surprised. It's hard to imagine you could hold a mortgage if you were that naive.

I don't generally dignify dopey people trying to incite others or pretending to be "in the know." But...I feel compelled to point out irony. The original inquiry was basically "what happened in town". This means the person wants to know what's going on and stay informed. I see nowhere an implication in this thread that anyone believes Cranbury is beyond having some criminal problems of some form or another. I personally like to stay informed, like presumably the OP, so I can feel and help make our town safer.

Bottom line to the person posting silliness in this thread - if you are an adult, act as such and try (I am only asking for you to *try*) to contribute something useful to the town and this forum rather than acting out like you do.
