CRANBURY — After almost four hours of testimony Tuesday night, there is no decision yet on whether the owner of a Christmas display will be allowed to proceed with it this year. There was barely a seat to be had, and latecomers hugged the back of the room, as the Cranbury Zoning Board of Adjustment convened Tuesday night to hear resident Keith Shaw’s appeal for his much-publicized Christmas Spectacular. Having received complaints during December 2012, Township Zoning Officer Jeff Graydon observed http://www.centraljerseymarketplace.com/newsite/cp/main.cgi

Wow - leave the poor guy alone - he is doing something good for everyone. It is only for a few weeks that people have to deal with it. I cant believe it is being made this big of a deal.

This is a TREMENDOUS burden on the adjoining property owners. This is not like the July fireworks that is over in an hour or so; this is a disturbance that no adjoining property owner should endure. The zoning regulations are clear and this is a nonconforming use of the property. Its about time the Committee gets some backbone and takes a stance to stop this .

untrue. The zoning regs are completely subjective, and the zoning consultant said as much in the meeting. The test is whether it is "customary" and "incidental" use of a residential property. Precedents cited were vague and not really applicable. It all comes down to the opinions of thé board, which is not the way it should be.

We will be so sad if this goes away - our family considers it part of the unique and friendly holiday season we have in Cranbury. Understand that there are extra cars and lights which might inconvenience the neighbors, but this is once at year and for charity. Hope we can keep our town's traditions and unique spirit.
