Dear Residents,

I wanted to provide a couple of updates.

Affordable Housing

I was told that there is some discussion circulating that Cranbury will be building 500 affordable housing units. I want to assure everyone that we are not doing this nor is this even a discussion.

On March 10th the N.J. Supreme Court ruled that the court will take over the regulation of affordable housing in the state after the Council on Affordable Housing (COAH) failed to act. Developers can now challenge any town that they believe is not providing their fair share of affordable housing and ask the court to grant them the right to build at a rate of one affordable unit for every 5 market rate rentals or four for sale housing units for every affordable unit, known as a Builder’s Remedy. The NJ Builders Association did file a brief with their view of how many homes each town in the state should build for Cranbury they felt it was 262 homes and we feel this is too high.

We are committed to ensuring Cranbury’s prior planning efforts, school system and community are preserved, and taking actions including:

- Mr. Mulligan, Mr. Cook along with our affordable housing subcommittee are actively working to review and respond to the court's ruling. Once their plan is formalized a presentation will be made to the township residents.

- I raised the need for a legislative solution to the Governor’s office, have discussed the concern with our legislators in Trenton and am working with other Mayor’s to discuss possible solutions and means by which we can work on a legislative solution.

Redevelopment on S. Main St. and Old Trenton Rd.
On June 9 at 7 p.m. in the Large Group Room of the Cranbury School, the redevelopment subcommittee of the Cranbury Township Planning Board will give an informal public presentation of the concept plan that has been developed to date for the "Cheney/Hagerty/Kushner" redevelopment area on South Main Street and Old Trenton Road.

I was asked about the process recently and want to assure residents that transparency on this has been key from the start as evidenced by the Planning Board and Township Committee agendas as well as the Mayoral letters distributed in the Cranbury Press and via the Township.

As promised by myself and the Township Committee when we started the process we want to ensure residents are aware and informed as this proceeds. Thus, this meeting on June 9th is part of that process.

While I am not part of the subcommittee I am confident that they want to hear the input and to be able to inform as many people as possible as to the project.

Thanks Jay. Could you or someone articulate what areas of Cranberry are still available for residential development of neighborhoods based on zoning?

Is there any information on the hotel on South River being converted to a residential drug and alcohol rehab facility?
This concerns me.
Thank you

All current zoning can be found at: http://www.cranburytownship.org/Zoning_Map.pdf

In terms of the hotel, I have no current information as to where it stands. Feel free to send me an email at jtaylor@cranbury-nj.com and I can put you in touch with the individuals who have the current information.

Is there any information on the hotel proposal that is available for public review at this time--in advance of the zoning meeting?

The last Zoning Board Committee meeting minutes available to the public on the Cranbury.org website are from September 2014. Why is there a 9 month lapse in recording and posting the minutes? If you guys worked for a real corporation you would all be fired by now.

Lets get some answer as to why the minutes don't get posted in a timely manner. I agree if this was a corporation or private business the staff in the zoning office would be fired.
