We just came through town and saw the Chaos [8:45 p. m. ]. There were three cars parked with blinking lights in front of the Post Office [ in the no parking zone], the lines for ice cream were almost back to the mail box. If the town fathers and mothers don't think this is an over use of a commercial property than what is? The adjoining residential properties are inundated with the noise and traffic from a business that has NO inside service. The approval for this business was hugely misguided--what can be done to give relief to the adjoining property owners?

Gil and Bert's has operated for years. The town enforces a 9:30 shut down for neighbors.

The owner(s) of that ice cream shop are laughing all the way to the bank on the utter incompetence of the town and its residents.

Sorry, but most residents see this as a benefit.

Sorry, but nobody cares what most residents think. Only thing that matters is what people that live in that area think. Obviously some are not pleased.

The number of people lined up to get ice cream and everyone I talk to whether Night Out, CPLL games or school events when the topic comes up.

Maybe the police should do something about the illegal parking instead of spending all of their time at the local diner?

Kudos to the owners of Gil & Bert's that they have built a successful business and provided the town with a fun spot. My family always enjoys heading downtown to grab dinner at one of the restaurants followed by ice cream! Or even just ice cream.

Gil and berts (and others like cranbury pizza) shows a good business can be successful in cranbury. If a businesss is not successful, it has nothing to do with parking, but it is due to the demographics of cranbury matching the business.

In Gil and Berts scenario, parking would alleviate issues for the immediate homeowners especially around dinner time.

Yes, a successful business will be so regardless of parking. But, parking is part of what a business factors in when coming to town. The more attractive the location is to a business, the more valuable the property and in return making the taxes more beneficial for the town.

Well if you think the tax assessor will increase the taxes you are sadly mistaken. The taxes are the same as they were when they opened and will continue to remain the same regardless of the increased revenue from the business.
The bottom line is the Zoning Board made a huge mistake in granting this variance and without sufficient parking and inside service this is a misuse of the residential property.Thank you Mr. Johnson for your assistance!!!

OK, first I take exception to the poster who made a derogatory comment about our police officers spending time at the local "diner." They have a right to their dinner hour, and I prefer them to take it in town rather than out of town. If an emergency arises, they are here. I guess this poster is not from Cranbury or is new to town.

Now, I do agree with the other posters that there is no reason for illegal parking. There is plenty of parking on Westminster Place, Bunker Hill, and Park Place East. The problem is that people just don't want to walk 75 yards. Get some exercise folks! It's only a short walk.

Lastly, Gill & Berts is a fantastic success story that offers a commodity that disappeared after Harold's closed. The kids greatly enjoy G & B's as do their parents. It's also a great meeting place that does not generate noise. Not once in the 10 years that I have been going there have I experienced any loud noise or any commotion whatsoever.

Very few of the Main Street businesses have parking other than street parking. So why should G and B be expected to?

Its Main Street, and it's well within the business area of Main Street. There are other businesses further North even. So those people that are classifying it as a residential area are misguided. It's a busines and residential area like Main Street's should be. If you don't want to be near bank, ice cream parlor, post office, diner, pizzeria, Asian food place, funeral home, dog parlor, real estate offices, etc, etc, etc, then don't buy a house on Main Street in any town.

If you knew what you were talking about you might have a point, but you don't so I'll have to explain to you newbies. All of these businesses are relatively new. Many of the people who live in this area have been here long before the business. As far as all the other businesses "even farther north" they are all low volume, and even more important are indoors.
