If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?
If a library closes when everyone is home with spare time, and no one cares, does it make a sound investment?
Perhaps it is time to consider closing the library for good and simply paying our dues to the county.
Or perhaps we should leave the library the way it is and only open to the public on afternoons, evenings and weekends. |

So no need for a new building then. |

Yes it does --- sound waves, physics. You know, science stuff. |

Fun facts you can learn at the online library (AKA the Internet)...
Definitions of Sound...
1. The sensation produced by stimulation of the organs of hearing by vibrations transmitted through the air or other medium.
2. Mechanical vibrations transmitted through an elastic medium, traveling in air at a speed of approximately 1087 feet (331 meters) per second at sea level.
By definition #1, the proverbial tree does not make sound. By definition #2, it does make sound. That said, the expression is "make a sound", not "make sound". So, one could conclude that when a tree falls in the woods, it does make sound, but the tree does NOT make a sound. |
