CRANBURY — The deadline to file nominating petitions to run in the Board of Education’s April 15 election has come and passed, and to the relief of school officials, three candidates stepped forward to fill the soon-to-be-vacated seats.
As of Feb. 21, the Board of Education had yet to receive any nominating petitions for any of the three, three-year school board seats. Compounding matters, all three of this year’s incumbents, Elizabeth Silverman, Kenneth Griffin and Frank Ransegnola, opted to not seek re-election.
However, Kevin Fox, Jennifer Cooke and Evelyn Spann got their petitions for school board in by Monday’s 4 p.m. deadline.
All three nominees decided to run after learning that the incumbents were not seeking re-election.
All three of the candidates said they look forward to serving on the school board.
”Initially, I just want to listen and learn,” Ms. Cooke said.
Ms. Cooke, 38, a licensed speech pathologist turned homemaker, said she spends her days taking care of her three young children, two of whom attend Cranbury School’s second grade and kindergarten classes.
Ms. Cooke is originally from Holmdel and has lived in Cranbury for three years.
