Grant to help pay for sidewalks

CRANBURY — The township will receive a $180,000 state grant to be used to resurface sidewalks, the Township Committee announced Monday.

Cranbury applies for the state Department of Transportation’s Municipal Aid Program every year and usually receives the grant every other year, said Christine Smeltzer, township administrator.

The township plans to add six concrete handicap ramps and flushed curbing to Wynnewood and Woodview drives with these funds, Ms. Smeltzer said.

Cranbury officials received word in mid-March that they had been approved for the grant. The township has 18 months to award a contract.

Ms. Smeltzer said the township would likely pay for the projects as they proceed and send vouchers to the state for reimbursement of the grant money.
