Public to get say on school spending
Increased tax revenue from the construction of new housing developments and warehouses means residents will see a slight decrease in school taxes for 2005-2006, despite rising enrollment and costs for renovations to the Cranbury School building.
The school board is proposing a $14 million 2005-2006 budget that will carry a 1-cent decrease from last year's tax rate, and will hold a public hearing on the budget on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the large group room at Cranbury School.
The 2005-2006 budget is 4.4 percent larger than the $13.4 million 2004-2005 budget. Increased enrollment and tuition to send students to Princeton High School and $1.2 million for the renovation of the school's heating, air conditioning and ventilation system, new ceilings, windows and cabinets as well as associated repairs, and $30,000 increase for the implementation of the new preschool program will drive spending.
