If NJ is short of affordable housing, why not incentivize builders to fix up our cities and brownfields instead of plowing up farmland and rural/suburban areas which are already straining at the seams? Does every square inch of land need to be "improved"?
I know that most developers are cozy bedfellows with players in state government. It doesn't really matter who gets elected to state offices. They still get greased by the building interests in some fashion. Money does the talking in NJ. It's up to The People to get involved and push back and let the politicans know that WE are the bosses, not the builders. Hold their feet to the fire until we can get a citizen's remedy.

The ones driving this are the people like Roberts from Camden. For all his high talk the truth is he wants the people out. The funny thing is that the people he wants out are not likely to be the ones applying for housing.

Second, Roberts and others are beholden to the builders lobby which is very powerful in NJ. With the housing slump they need to stay busy so low income is basically forced housing that will keep the builders in business. Why would a firm want to build affordable housing when they could build homes for more money? Because they can't right now, no one is buying. So some income is better than none.
