I'm not one of them personally but I have heard a lot of people interested about doing their runs on the track if it is built. There are a lot of joggers in town. |

But many joggers run from their house to town and back. Will they really drive to the track and run around it? Maybe a dozen people will who are competitive and want to time themselves. But is it worth sending that much money on it? |

There's a lot right next to the soccer fields where the track is being proposed. |

And how would usage of the proposed track be regulated? My guess is that the general public would not be able to use the track during school hours so is this really benefitting the community? Can a town the size of Cranbury really support a $750,000 track plus annual maintenance? We still have a ballfield that is not being used. It looks pretty though. |

It's pretty when it's new. Like my wife, it takes a lot of money to make it look pretty as time goes by. |

Provided they can build the track with donations, it seems to me the question is can they raise enough money to maintain it.
The track regulation argument is silly. If it were on school property, it could not be used while school is in session. If it were on town property, it could be used at any time that a track practice or meet is going on. People share tracks all the time, though you don't want to be running laps when a wall of high hurdlers comes down the straightaway.
If it can be built and maintained with private funds, there should be no objections. Of course, that is rather big if. |

This town is getting more and more ridiculous. We have no money but we want a new track. Go to heritage park. We have no money, hey lets buy property on Plainsboro rd for almost a million Dollars. We have no money, Hey lets buy another farm on Wycoffs Mills rd in the near future for a few million. Unbelievable! The council needs to be dismissed. |

You need to attend the meetings so you'll know the facts. The property acquired was through Green Acres and Middlesex county grant money from open space so the cost to the town is I believe around 100,000 not a million.
The Track is to be done entirely through private donations as well as creating a trust for upkeep. The TC and School Board only said they have no issue if someone wants to do this. |

Seems like you must be very informed through your active participation in town meetings. Am I correct? |

I'm not the previous poster but my guess is the reason is the poster is skeptical that the school and township will not have to help pay for it in the future. We weren't supposed to have to pay for the ball field either but when all was said and done not only were we on the hook for some of the costs and the Township ended up having to get into a legal fights with both the contractors and the engineer, at its expense.
Just because someone declares a vague goal to pay for it with grants or private funds doesn't mean it will entirely end up that way. In fact, it's hard to imagine a scenario where that can be guaranteed. Are we really saying, for example, that if we rip up the area all around our school soccer fields to build it and then the costs go over and its half-built that we're just going to walk away and leave a half-built, potentially hazardous to those using he soccer fields track there indefinitely? Or would there be pressure, as there was with the ball field, to finish it because we are too far along? And are we really saying that when they start to build it and then we figure out later that there isn't enough funds to permanently endow the maintenance that we're going to tell them to stop? Doubtful. And then we’ll end up with the bills in perpetuity to operate it. In most cases they seem to start these projects without having even fully vetted what the ongoing costs to operate are or proving that they have the funds to do that beyond construction. |

It seems that people seem to have tunnel vision and just think about the initial cost of projects. No one looks at construction costs( for projects on aquired property) Maintenance costs, and taxes for anything we do to our twp property. Nothing is ever free. It always costs us money and by not increasing our taxes we can't even keep up with what we have now. We would rather layoff our police personel and our road dept employees. I swear, This town dosen't know which way is up anymore. |

A little sarcasm...Before the proposed track is built, who will take the measurements? and check? and re check?
My fear is like what happened with the ball field, and instead of a 400 meter track a 387 meter track will be built. |
