The fire whistle has be active in this town in some form or other since 1898. Yes we do have pagers and radios but this is a back up system a fail safe if you will... the first aid horn has been active since 1957... The fire alarm is meant to wake you smoke alarms do not always work and it may be your neighbors house on fire (if anyone cares about their neighbors in this town any more) you may want to help if needed...
Sorry for the inconvenience but the fire fighters and first aid members children are awaken in the middle of the night by the pagers and radios I dont think it has hurt them and for some reason they tend to become emt's and firefighters when they are old enough...
by the way we are at the fire house every monday evening and our meeting is the last thursday of the month SUCK IT UP!!!!

So you're comparing a town of 20,000 to Cranbury? Notice the main complainer lives in an apartment, he and his family are free to move. As is everyone else. I am not a fire fighter or EMT, but I do like the siren and knowing someone is responding. Feel free to find a town who is quiet and meets your needs.

How about not being so negative with your take on the article mr or mrs defender of the fire horn. If you read the article you can also see the perspective which is actually similar to yours that the horn has been their a long long time and it is a good thing as a back up if the power is out and so on. So actually the article backs you up and defends your point. So How about not being so nasty about it and have a civil discourse about the issue.

The fire siren is used as a backup to the pagers and radios at night, then what does the rescue squad use as a backup to the pagers and radios at night since their siren is shut off at night.we should see about the fire dept using whatever the rescue squad uses since there doesn't seem to be an issue with them

Here is an idea. Lets completely disregard the feelings of the men and women who volunteer their time and yes actually risk their lives! After all I sit on my selfish a$# while they serve, so my comfort is far more important. Maybe we can completely isolate them so they all quit. Then we can either pay people or seek coverage from another town.

Seriously, we are you all taking the bait? The OP obviously posted this message specifically to get you all riled up having read the previous post a couple months ago that played out with virtually all the same comments being re-tred here. All they have to do is show up once a day, post another reply to stoke the fire and sit back and laugh at how they can offend everyone else. This was not a real post. It may have been the first time around, but not this copy-cat version. So relax everyone. I'm sure a vast majority of real adults in this community is okay with the current situation.

The OP aired his opinion about the fire & rescue whistle blaring at night. I believe the same loud whistle woke me up at approx. 12:15pm Tues.morning. A few moments later, the emergency vehicle was sounding its sirens. As everyone knows, sound carries at night. I can understand the need for the alert siren/whistle during the busy hours of the day when the town is more populated and busy with cars and pedestrians, but after 9 or 10pm, why can't the siren be silenced. After all, as one guest stated, this is 2010. Another guest pointed out that the First Aid silences their alarm after a certain hour, why couldn't the Fire Co. do the same. I would think that the volunteers (God bless them!) would have pagers, cell phones, walkie-talkies or other communication equipment near their bed stands. If not, then they should be supplied with the necessary equipment. Please don't take this out of context or personally-this is not an assault-it is a suggestion to silence the siren after a certain hour of the evening. If there are not that many calls, then why not use a silent alarm? Is there that much of a need or perhaps desire to disturb residents in the late evening early morning hours?

Yes, I am aware of the valuable service these volunteers provide, not everyone is cut out to do this work. I respect them for their service, but respect is a two way street. Why is there so much angst, some of the nasty (SUCK IT UP) comments are really uncalled for. Thank you for the contact info, I shall contact Mr. Taylor and relay my thoughts to him.

I see a few people are really put out and disturbed by the alarm. I say we turn it off at night and if the volunteers miss a call or two, it is no big deal. So what if only 2 people show up to try and save your family member from your burning house or cut them out of a car. If the alarm sounds too many people will arrive to help.

Let's face it. the alarm goes off once in a while at night. I would rather be disturbed for a few minutes and roll over to go back to sleep then hear that someone died or was injured or someone lost a house to fire all because the volunteers were asleep when the call went out abd siren was turned off.

It has been here for many more years than anyone at present has lived in Cranbury according to one poster. Let us all realize the horns importance and move on from this discussion, Please.

so we'll restrict building in town, we'll vote against building on rt.130, we'll get rid of the volunteers....AND, we'll complain when our taxes go up. Makes alot of sense.

Was the fire horn bright and early this morning part of Cranbury's mothers day celebration?

The question of why it's ok to shut off the rescue squad siren at night and not the fire siren still hasn't been answered. Isn't the rescue siren just as important as the fire siren?

I really hope you feel good about your comment now.
Hopefully your Mother's Day was better than the person who had the stroke.

The Fire and First Aid whistles that were used before were fine by me , now these new electronic ones are a different story. Keep on complaining yuppies I think they will lower the speed limit on main street to 5mph, and put up a super Wawa across the street from where Applegate trucking used to be.

I'm not on the fire dept. or first aid squad, but you people make me sick. All you do is complain, now there are boycotts of Cranbury businesses in neighboring towns due to a new speed limit, that they believe is a Boss Hogg and Roscoe speed trap thanks a lot assholes, keep up the complaining, or better yet do us a favor and go back to where you came from.
