Town gets ready to celebrate history
Dozens of vendors and artists will line North Main Street on Saturday to sell their wares, sing their tunes and take part in the town's biggest, community-wide event of the year.
Cranbury Day — sponsored by the Cranbury Business and Professional Association — will be off to a running start at 8:30 a.m. with the Hightstown-East Windsor YMCA's annual one-mile fun run and 5K race through the downtown area.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and costs $10 for the one-mile run and $18 for the 5K run. Register online at www.raceforum.com.
The town's main thoroughfare will be closed for the day's festivities and limited to pedestrian traffic between Westminster Place and Scott Avenue.
Between those two short blocks, Joanne Meehan, the president of the Business Association, expects at least 1,500 people to gather throughout the day's events, which run until 4 p.m.
From shopping for jewelry or antique finds to munching on fair favorites like funnel cake and ice cream, there will be plenty for locals and out-of-town visitors to enjoy, Ms. Meehan said.
Local business owners such as the jewelry boutique Charmed by Claire, children's clothing company Pied Piper Clothing, and David Wells' Antiques plan to set up shop right on the sidewalk in front of their stores.
