The Township Committee is getting closer to hiring a new township administrator.
The interview process is under way and Committeeman Richard Stannard said Monday that the township is expecting to name someone to the job within the next few weeks.
"We've spoken of wanting to get it done by the end of April, so it looks like that's pretty much possible," he said.
Current Township Administrator Tom Witt announced in November that he will retire July 1. He has worked for the township since 1981 and currently earns $114,700 a year.
Mr. Witt originally worked for the township as a public works employee before becoming sewer and water superintendent in 1986. He was made public works superintendent and the township's qualified purchasing agent in 1999. In 2005, he replaced the previous township administrator, Frederick Carr, who resigned.
Mr. Stannard said the Township Committee received resumes from approximately 50 candidates interested in filling the position. He said committee members have interviewed a number of hopefuls, but still have a few more to go.
