Christine Smeltzer to return to post she left in 2000

Cranbury is getting ready to welcome back an old friend.

On Wednesday, the township hired Christine Smeltzer, who served as township administrator from 1990 to 2000, back to her old position at a salary of $108,000 per year. Ms. Smeltzer, of Florence Township, will replace current administrator Tom Witt, who will retire on June 1.

"I worked there for 10 years and I've always had a fondness for Cranbury because it was my first job in that capacity," she said. "And, after a while, I decided I wanted to try working for some other municipalities that were bigger or had more commercial operation going on within the town, but now I feel like I would really enjoy working there again. So, it's kind of like coming back home for me."

Mayor David Stout and Committeeman Richard Stannard said the committee is glad to have Ms. Smeltzer back.
