Advice to incoming kindergarteners from those moving to first grade
With the ABC's under their belts and the ability to spell their first and last names, share toys during recess and be away from mom and dad for a full school day without batting an eye, this year's graduating Cranbury kindergartners are psyched to take on first grade.
But before they move on, a few students were willing to share some expert advice for next year's nervous newcomers to make their transition into elementary school somewhat smoother.
First and foremost, kindergartners want their successors to know that it's OK to cry.
"I cried on the second day," kindergartner Isabel Kinney recalled. "I was scared. I didn't cry on the first day, only the second day. But now, if somebody cries, I try to help them."
It's also OK to miss your mom and to tell the teacher how you feel, Isabel said. Once she shared her feelings, she learned there was a simple solution.
