Democratic candidates will be challenged by Art Hasselbach, a Republican, in November's election for one of the two open seats on the Township Committee.
Mr. Hasselbach won the Republican nomination at Tuesday's primaries after receiving 25 votes as a write-in candidate. There were no other candidates on the Republican ballet.
"I have to do my civic duty in town because so many people were bugging me to go back on the Township Committee," Mr. Hasselbach said Wednesday. "They're not happy with the way things are rolling."
Mr. Hasselbach, 63, who has lived in Cranbury for 47 years, was elected to the Township Committee in 1997 when he filled the unexpired term of Committeewoman Becky Beauregard, who resigned before her three-year term was up. Mr. Hasselbach was re-elected in 1998 to a three-year seat.
Of the township's 2,498 registered voters, only 138 cast votes on Tuesday.
