Residents can air their concerns at a Sept. 10 meeting
Residents who still have questions about the township's recent revaluation and its affect on their tax bills will get another chance to air their concerns in September.
Tax Assessor Steve Benner will be at the Sept. 10 Township Committee meeting to answer questions and hear complaints from residents, some of whom say they didn't have enough information about the process.
The township completed a township-wide property revaluation designed to bridge the gap between property values and current market values. The property inspection process was completed in December after Appraisal Systems Inc., of Mendham, visited 1,160 houses, 73 vacant lots, 149 farm properties, 96 commercial properties and 77 exempt properties. The revaluation, the first in the township since 1986, bumped the average residential property value from $219,439 in 2006 to $673,176 in 2007.
While Mr. Benner has been available at several Township Committee meetings, the committee decided Monday to make him available again after hearing complaints from several residents about the process.

There was no mentioning in the previous agendas to address the 2007 property tax issues. Take a look at the following agendas posted by the TC:
July 23, 2007 agenda:
http://cranburytownship.org/TC_agenda_072307.html
Aug. 6, 2007:
http://cranburytownship.org/TC_agenda_080607.html
Aug. 27, 2007: canceled
The town should use the media (e.g. the Cranbury Press), the town web site, and email notification to inform the residents about the upcoming meeting to discuss the 2007 property tax issues. |

Letting residence know at Cranbury Day would be a good idea too, that's on the 8th. Maybe handing out some cards to residence to let them know about the upcoming meeting on the 10th. I'm sadly on vacation and will miss both, but some of my neighbors work in NYC and have a heck of a time making it.
Does anyone want to volunteer to man a table at Cranbury Day (i.e. organizations like the Lions, Historical Assoc, or the Cranbury Press etc) and do a survey for feedback? Maybe even collect some questions for the TC since many of us work in the city and can’t make the meeting in time. Or would it be easier just to add the question here? |

I think it would be a great idea if the TC adopted the type of feedback that a lot of companies have. I work for a Fortune 500 company and the CEO does a quarterly town hall. All employees can click on one of our intranet sites and post a question after the meeting. It is either than addressed on the site or it is addressed on the next town hall call.
I think this would be great to see for a town feedback. I also work in NYC 50% of my time and I don't get home on those days until 7:30 or 8:00. |

The meeting begins at 7pm. This is not a convenient time for residents who work in NYC or other far-away places. I hope the township can accept emailed questions. |

Quote: | Township Committeewoman Pari Stave explained that all the information is on the Web site, including the municipal budget and graphic explanations such as pie charts. |
Sorry, Pari. This information is not on the website, except for a one-page summary, and this information has nothing to do with shifting the tax burden. |

If we go all together as a township united, perhaps townhall might listen to us.

What if they listen with their ears, but really don't care much in their head?
I don't know much about the members in the TC. Are they good people who we can trust? |

For those who could not make it in time, maybe we can post the questions here for those who can make it to ask the TC?? |
