Who are the yinyangs who voted for that Babe Ruth baseball debacle?
I heard it may cost close to a million dollars.
Who is running this town, the bush administration????????????

The money would be MUCH better spent building/enlarging our town library. A million dollars could buy a lot of books or media equipment!

THINK!

Many of us are faced with the issue of how to pay our new property taxes and the town is building a baseball field? How much debt is the town carrying? Cancel the field, put the money to pay down our debt and lets keep talking about how to trim the budget, not spend more money we don't have!!!

Is this real? I just moved to town. Why would they spend this much money for something so few people use? The babe ruth field in my prior town was locked so even though the town built it kids could not have pick up games.

I'd hope that the league is reimbursing the town.

I don't know how the township committee works in determining how to allocate money and make policy decisions. Can someone enlighten me? Do the residents have a say in the budget allocation and important policy decisions?

Would this baseball field be available for use by all Cranbury Citizens when no games are being played by the babe ruth league? Anyway, Why must it belong to the Babe Ruth League since the Cranbury residents are paying for it? Why can't it be just a baseball field for ALL to use?

Hmm . . . Don't we already have a baseball field in Cranbury already?

I just have so . . . many questions about this, especially looking at what's happening to our economy. The federal government just added a second round of addition money into the banking system. Should we not wait a bit in spending this money? Afterall, cranbury already has 25 mil in outstanding debt (according to the 2007 Budget).

Folks,

Time to save more money for a possible freestanding library beside the Babe Ruth baseball field.

I'd actually prefer a library that every resident from those who are old to young can use as opposed to a limited use baseball field. Why not get the library first then the field.

I agree. If the cost is comparable, I prefer a library than a baseball field.

spend, spend, spend, spend why are we spending so freely in Cranbury right now when the market is so down? Have you even gone to the Cranbury library lately - It was pretty empty the last time I was there. Do we really need to spend additional tax dollars on another building project in Cranbury? Maybe a new PC or two, some more books, etc. But really, another building. I want to keep the farm in our historic farming town of Cranbury, dont you? There's this new invention called the Internet that is making large libraries unnecessary BTW, so I would say let's upgrade what we have in Cranbury to the latest.

I like the current library. It's part of the Cranbury school. Students have easy access to the library. Visiting library is part of the learning experience. It's great!

I hope we can put the Babe Ruth field on hold for a bit and use what ever money is left to reduce the current tax rate, that would show real leadership out of the TC and concern for our retired residence who are struggling. I'm sure there are other places we can cut in the budget to reduce the tax rate for all. Let's talk about that at the next meeting.

I too would rather have a policy to build something that can be used by the entire Cranbury township, not just the few boys that pay into the Babe Ruth League dues.

Because who will pay for the accidental and liability insurance needed every year for the new field?

Babe Ruth Official Website wrote:
"Directors and Officers liability insurance is available for purchase for those leagues who obtain both the Babe Ruth League, Inc. offered accident and liability insurance policies."

and who pays for the lites that will be needed for night games?
and electrical?
and yearly ground keeping?
and managing it?
and
and it doesn't stop at just a million does it?

What can be done?

How bout we fix those two tennis courts? its a hazard just running around the cracks last time I played. That was two years ago and was so hazardous I never went back. Maybe more Cranbury boys and girls would benefit from that, then the very few that will join the League. What could it cost to pave both and get new nets. And the ones in the Park were even worse back then. Why is this BR Field a bigger priority? How are the soccer fields? and Basket Ball courts? all these can be improved first.

And we can even put stands around our existing baseball diamond. Both improvements should be well well under a million to do and all boys and girls in Cranbury could play and would benefit. I know I would too.

I'm a byproduct of the Babe Ruth League and it teaches boys good competitive skills (as well as its fun). I think part of the million was used to clean up the land, not sure how much. But I never really knew how it was managed. My town also locked up the access to the field so that the local kids didn't ruin the grass and grounds. So no one but the teams could play. I'm wondering, how many boys are we talking about? And how many are in the Princeton Babe Ruth League now?

The Babe Ruth League is a very very large national organization and does have the capability to borrow money and build this private base ball club in Cranbury themselves. And they can use the dues for the private members to pay it down without affecting all our taxes. I'm not sure why everyone in Cranbury would be expected to pay into this private club, but cleaning up the land they use is OK with me.

I'm glad boys have a great learning experience from the BR league, but what about the girls? Where is the emphasis on girls sports? I truly feel that if Cranbury is looking to spend money on recreation, why not improve the existing facilities, operate additional 'clinic' type sports programs, and encourage all Cranbury residents, boys & girls, old & young, to get physically fit.

Many kids ride their bikes to school, but there are no bike paths. They are forced to ride of the sidewalks because people don't respect the 25mph zone on Main Street. Why do we remove parking from areas of Main Street so kids can have a bike lane?

I just don't see how $1M for a baseball field helps the greater community. I'm glad the land has been cleaned up, but why don't we work on a public garden, teach kids about the agricultural history of Cranbury. Plant trees, start a 4H club? There are so many more things to do with that land than a baseball field for the exclusive use of a club (and boys!).

Can you please remove the portion of tax money I personally paid out of the Babe Ruth field project since I will never use it, and it's not public anyway. Thanks

As a resident, I would like to see my tax money spent more wisely. Is building the baseball field a done deal?
