On Thursday night, May 28th at approximately 11:30 PM, burglar(s) entered a residence on Holmes Road and removed numerous items. The residents were home at the time. Cranbury residents should lock their doors and activate their alarm systems. Even though officers have been paying extra attention to residential areas, it is vital that residents contact us immediately if they see anyone or anything suspicious.

There are pretty few break-in's in Cranbury but there have been a few lately, between Evans and this. Is there any pattern? The only one I can see is they seem to be picking on neighborhoods close to the 130, but that could be a coincidence.

The house selected is an odd choice. I can't imagine a professional choosing a modest house in a modest neighborhood, in plain view of 8 other houses, while the owners were home. There are certainly larger, more secluded homes to choose from near-bye. It makes me wonder who is walking around our neighborhood at night.

cranbury police are spending too much time checking seat belt at the cornner of plainsboro and route 130 and checking illegal turn at old trenton and rout 130. they should spend more time to look at cases like this.

I agree. But giving out tickets earns $$$; patrolling burns gas ($$$). The motivation MAY be less.

Seems the polic can't win. We have a set number of officers on duty at a time. People complain about speeding and so the police set up speed traps. Now, they are being blamed for not being there while this robbery happens. The truth is our police do patrol and people will see them patrolling. However, this is a spread out town and the police have a lot to do. We can't have an officer on every street corner all day and night.

Protect yourselves as well. Get a burgerlar alarm and arm it when you leave or go to bed. If you are going away alert the police and a trusted neighbor. Lock your doors whether you're home or away. Lastly, this is the time of year when people pass through this way and will hit homes or run scams. So please keep your guards up.

Jeff, while I generally agree with you, in fairness people are specifically compaining that they are wasting time ticketing a bogus traffic violation, not that they are ticketing speeding in general. I think everyone here would be happy for them to be even more aggressive in ticketing speeding on Main Street, etc. That is a better use of time than ticketing people for turning right, at a proper speed on a green light onto Old Trenton from Route 130.

I just think we need to give the police a break. Truth is that we have 2 police officers on duty and they are trying their best. They don't deserve residents, perhaps even non-residents second guessing.

On thr ight trun issue. I've actually asked a police officer about the right turn issue. If the light is green and you pull over to make a turn you will not get ticketed at least not by that officer. If the light is red and you move to the shoulder or move past cars using the shoulder to make a right turn you will be ticketed.

What is really scary is that these two burglaries happened when someone was home. Having a visual police presence is absolutely necessary. Maybe, these burglars will think twice and move on.

I don't get it - Why are you complaining about the police checking the seat belts? Look what happened to our own Governor. Not only that, it gives them an added excuse to check on questionable vehicles in our area. Afterall, it seems the burglaries are happening to homes in close proximity to route 130.

The police can only do so much . . . It is up to everyone to keep a lookout for suspicious vehicles or people in the area.

I believe a right-turn only lane from Rt-130 South to Old Trenton Rd. is coming soon. Two covered signs (Right Lane for Right Turn Only) are there now.

I think the burglar(s) are familiar with the neighborhood.

it looks like they parked the vehicle somewhere on route 130 or other roads with through traffc and walked to the homes near-by. the timing is odd: one happened in the evening and the other in afternoon. with four incidents happened in this small community within a few months, maybe we should start a more organized neighborhood watching.

Has anyone ever watch this show, "It Takes a Thief". It is on the Discovery Channel Mon-Fri from 5-6pm. It is quite an eye opening show into the thought process of burglars. It also offers many security suggestions and information.

Police say a series of unusual home burglaries in Central Jersey are linked and are warning residents to be vigilant.

The 14 burglaries took place in April and May in South Brunswick, Princeton Township, Princeton Borogh, Cranbury and Piscataway, and police in those municipalities worked with the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office to determine that the crimes are linked, authorities said.

The burglaries took place between April 12 and May 29, and all of them took place at night while the homes were occupied.

The homes were not broken into. The burglars got into the homes either through garage doors or unlocked sliding doors.

Items stolen in the burglaries included jewelry, purses and electronics.

In three instances, the burglars found the homeowners' car keys and stole their vehicles.

Polie noted that the burglaries all took place near major roadways — Route 27, Metlars Lane and Route 130.

Police warned area residents to lock all doors and urged them to report any suspicious behavior.

Anyone with information regarding the burglaries can call South Brunswick police Detective Jim Ryan at (732) 329-4000, Ext. 7448.

Thanks for the info. This is bigger than I thought. I wonder whether the increase in burglaries is related to the economy downturn.

The article implies that these burglaries are all linked and unusual. It's not about the economy but is probably one group that doesn't care if you are home or not.

We scary about this type of person, not only are they illegally entering and stealing your property - they want or need that added rush by entering when someone is home. They are testing fate by not knowing if one of the home owners has a gun. Let's hope this does not end badly with violence.

Every year there are a series of burglaries in this area this time of year. There are groups of individuals that travel the 95 corridor. It is the same groups of people who will run the roofing and home repair scams.

It has nothing to do with the economy. These issues have been happening for years. Last year a police officer walking spoke with my wife and told her to be careful because of these issues.
