If you walk your dog, pick up after your dog. If you allow your children to walk your dog, instruct them that it is their responsibility to pick up after their dog. It defies any sense of understanding I have how somebody can be (repeatedly) ignorant enough not to understand that it is not acceptable to do otherwise. This comes from someone that owns a dog and practices the Golden Rule.
But, since it appears that this is the case, please know that the township has an ordinance that requires pet owners to clean up after them. I believe state stormwater rules are also violated when one fails to pick up after their pet. Our ordinance is as follows:
§ 162-2.1. Pet waste.
[Added 9-12-2006 by Ord. No. BOH 09-06-01] A. Definitions. As used in this section, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
OWNER/KEEPER — Any person who possesses, maintains, houses or harbors any pet or otherwise has custody of any pet, whether or not the owner of such pet.
PERSON — Any individual, corporation, company, partnership, firm, association, or political subdivision of this state subject to municipal jurisdiction.
PET — Any domesticated animal kept for amusement or companionship.
PROPER DISPOSAL — Placement of the solid waste in a designated waste receptacle or other suitable container, and discarded in a refuse container that is regularly emptied by the municipality or a refuse collector, or disposal into a system designed to convey domestic sewage for proper treatment and disposal.
B. Solid waste removal and disposal required. All pet owners and keepers shall immediately remove and properly dispose of the solid waste deposited by the pet on public property or the property of another, as the term "proper disposal" is defined herein above.
C. Exemptions. Nothing herein shall be deemed to apply to any owner or keeper requiring the use of a disability assistance animal while said animal is being used for such purpose.
D. Violations and penalties. Any owner or keeper who violates the provisions hereof shall be subject to the penalties prescribed in § 162-16 of this Code.
It is not my responsibility to clean my yard of other people's pet waste. It is unsafe for my own dog, and my children.
Please, exercise common courtesy, or, minimally, abide by our town's ordinance. |

) usually carry a bag with them. That's a good indication that they plan to do what's right. I usually note down the face of people who don't do that and try to see where they live.
