New voice needed on Cranbury committee

David Thomsson, Cranbury

I am writing to support Win Cody for Township Committee. Mr. Cody has the qualifications that Cranbury needs. Every board, whether it is appointed or elected, requires financial and managerial expertise. As voters, it behooves us to elect candidates who bring these skills to the committee. Mr. Cody has successfully started and run his own business, and he has the experience necessary to make our committee more effective. In the difficult economic times ahead, his proven expertise will be even more important as the committee balances competing priorities and revenue sources.

As chairman, Mr. Cody has worked hard to reinvigorate the Cranbury Republican Party. A functioning, vibrant democracy needs at least two parties to provide competing ideas and balanced governance. In recent years, Cranbury has not had a strong two-party system, to our detriment. While most voters do not see the work he has done, our community is stronger as a result of his efforts. Mr. Cody will bring the same enthusiasm and ability to accomplish goals to the Township Committee.

Finally, it is important to have two-party representation on the committee. Wayne Wittman is the only Republican on the committee and he is not running for re-election. Having all the members of the committee from one party means that we will not have the variety of opinions necessary for good governance. The risk is that the committee could become a rubber stamp for one set of viewpoints. It is essential that we have some balance. Electing Mr. Cody will maintain the spirit of bipartisanship that has served our community well in the past. I urge Cranbury residents to vote for Mr. Cody and maintain the best traditions of our town.
