We have one of those built in ceramic stove cooktops with 5 burners. It's a KitchenAid and we're not the original owners who installed it. (It should be 5 years or less old).

It's digital and we're having trouble with the heating. We turn it on to a "6" and suddenly I look again and it's automatically upped itself to a "10" or down to a "1". It's a problem for cooking and just generally seems unsafe (though so far problems have only been when I've turned it on, not it turning itself on).

We tried calling KitchenAid and they gave us the name of one company, you have to wait between 8 am and 5 pm, pay a $75 fee upfront for coming then pay more on top of that for any work, parts, etc etc. We just don't get a good feeling about it.

Has anyone else needed to do a repair like this to a built in cooktop? Is it something an electrician could do? Or someone else? I tried looking up cooktop and stove in the yellow pages but didn't find anything. It seems like it's going to be tricky to access unless there's some secret I don't know about.

Thanks for any suggestions on service people or other avenues to pursue.

I have found recently that you can "look up" almost anything on the internet. Try typing your stove top name/model and what the problem is. You will most likely be able to get some answers. Some sites will explain how to fix it yourself for just the part(s) and your time.

Sears repair.
They come out and fix ANYTHING.
I'm sure they're listed in the Google somewhere.
