Primary season officially has arrived as the various parties and municipalities gear up for Tuesday’s race.

In Cranbury, Mayor Pari Stave and Committeeman Tom Panconi are stepping down, leaving two open seats for the upcoming election.

In the Republican corner, Jay Taylor and Dan Mulligan are vying for the primary vote.

There is no one on the ballot for the Democrats, although party Chairman Glenn Johnson said he has some prospects that could emerge as a write-in candidate.

”I don’t have any names to give you right now,” he said Wednesday night. “I just heard a few minutes ago that there are some possibilities that materialized just in the last couple of days, and I guess we’re going to discuss those this weekend.”

In order to run a write-in campaign, candidates must receive a certain number of write-in votes, a number that varies for each municipality and party. This number is formulated by calculating 5 percent of the total votes cast by a political party from the primary of the last general election, according to the Middlesex County Clerk’s Office.

In Cranbury, Democrats would need three write-in votes in order to make it on November’s ballot. The polls in Cranbury will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the municipal building, 23 N. Main St.

I think this is another Democrat game where they will have two people who showed no interest until the last minute and then will be heavily pushed after the primary. I find it very unlikely that Mr. Johnson just found names a few moments prior to the Press calling.

I would encourage everyone to vote this Tuesday June 2 in the Primary election. For Republicans, there are contested elections where it is important to make the choice of candidates to be on the ballot for this November's election.

Following is my letter that was published this week in the Cranbury Press regarding Brian Hackett for Assembly candidate as well as our Cranbury candidates Dan Mulligan and Jay Taylor. I also support Chris Christie for Governor. Christie has shown true leadership as US Attorney and is the right person we need in Trenton. He has the best chance of defeating Corzine in November.

No matter who you support, I encourage everyone to make their voice heard and vote next Tuesday June 2.

Vote Brian Hackett for District 14 Assembly on June 2

There is an important primary on June 2 for several contested races. I want to encourage support for Brian Hackett for District 14 Assembly person in the Republican Primary. There are three candidates for two positions. District 14 is roughly half Middlesex Country and half Mercer County. Brian is the only candidate from Middlesex County. I had the opportunity to meet all three candidates at a recent meeting in Cranbury. At first I was a little concerned with his age but came away very impressed with his depth of knowledge on the issues, extensive experience and his great new ideas. We need his youthfulness and energy to help change the problems in Trenton including taxes, COAH, budget, loss of jobs in NJ, pensions and ethics. Either of the other two Republican candidates from Mercer County would make a fine partner to run with Brian for the general election.

For those of you in Cranbury, I want to encourage your vote for Dan Mulligan and Jay Taylor for the township committee primary election. While they are the only two candidates on the ballot for the two open positions, it would be great to show support with votes for them. They are two dedicated and impressive young men who would serve Cranbury very well.

If we want representation from Middlesex County, vote ONLY for Brian. The way I understand it (someone please correct me if I am wrong) the top two vote-getters will be elected.
