"Come to the library for our second annual festival of fun, Library fest, on Friday, July 31, from 7-9 p.m. in the parking lot.

From 7-8, enjoy an assortment of desserts and beverages, be a pawn in our game of human chess, enjoy polymers (slime) and sublimates (dry ice) with Mad Science, blow bubbles, and join our “all-ages welcome” concert with Spook Handy about whom famed folksinger Pete Seeger has exclaimed “There's a songwriter from New Jersey who really understands how to write a good song that says something important” from 8-9.

Board members and staff will be on hand to answer questions about the future library.

Celebrate Christmas in July by watching a 3-D version of Polar Express. We provide the glasses and the treat. At 3:00 p.m., in the library. July 27th"

This looks like a party to help promote a new library.

Overall it seems a bit excessive and out of touch during these times when the town can’t afford a new horn for the fire department or to pay to run ordinances in the paper as required by law.

It says "second annual" so it seems like a recurring program that they are just exploiting for the purpose of pitching their new library agenda. So I wouldn't fault the existance of the event, especially since our tax dollars have already paid for their huge surplus anyway based on the law of minimum funding. At least this is arguably useful to some taxpayers versus hording it to build a completely unncessary new library.

That said, I find it surprising they areso blantant as to specifically say board members would be on hand to discuss the "future library" as if it was a given. Perhaps it was a typo and they meant the "future of the library"? If not, they should be ashamed of themselves. And to those who've posted here before defending the current TC majority and others on this issue, please explain how you defend this? This is exactly the kind of politics that cause most of us here to distrust them -- using public money to try and infuence the outcome.

How is the Library Board selected BTW? This makes me want to take an activist role in seeing it become more balanced in the future with people who are fiscally responsible with a diversity of opinions that represent the Township rather than serving one agenda which has not even been demonstrated to be supported by a majority of local taxpayers.

If it is a typo I find it funny that it would be made by those who work for a library which is predicated on an understanding and comprehension of the written word. Rather, I think the TC (minus Win) and Library have a path in place and this event is being used to discuss that and try to gain further support.

I do like this event and believe that such events are valuable. I just wish it would not be used to push an agenda. It is not a charity event looking to raise awareness for an issue, it is a publicly funded resource and therefore should be exempt from any politics or discussion of agendas. Now being a bit contradictory, if they want to have a jar out collecting for a future library with no one pushing an agenda I have no issue.

Elmo can't prove it, but heard that Spook Handy and Pete Seeger conspired to kill Elmo's beloved goldfish! Elmo heard they wanted to use Elmo's fish tank for a bass, a rock lobster and a little tuna. Damn musicians! You just can't trust them.

Just received my Cranbury Public Library newsletter that states
"Library Board Members and staff will be on hand to answer questions about the future of the library."

Sounds like a good idea to be available to answer questions as there has been some press and buzz about the library.

This is really an event for the kids, and my 5 and 7-year old don't care about any library agendas. They had a great time last year, I expect they'll have a great time this year, and we'll all continue to appreciate what the library (and the librarians, and the volunteers, and the Friends of the Library) gives to our community. The three stars they're so proud of? Received because their per-capita usage is so high. If the school sponsored a singer, two science stations, a checker game, cookies and a fruit tray I can't imagine people would fuss so much.

But kids need a ride to the library (or accompanied by parents), so the parents will be there. The future of the library agenda is mainly for the parents.

BTW, do you like the PNC location (considering you have young kids visiting the library)?

Yes, the parents will be there, but let's see whether they're militantly pushing the PNC acquisition (I've never been to a children's event at the library where they have, but maybe others have had different experiences). No, I don't support buying the PNC building - I think the set-up works well as is, and the very high usage by the community makes me feel as if many others aren't too upset with the current status either (again, I could be wrong). I just support the fact that they're doing something mildly educational in the summer - this is the summer reading program finale - and feel that slime and bubbles aren't particularly extreme.

I like the current location and setup much better!

I support the library and the staffs at its current location and setup.

I don't support buying the PNC bank for the future library.

This is all about the Obama-lead Socialist agenda!!!
Fust, THEY try to win the hearts & minds of the children, then THEY turn them into reading, thinking, independent-minded sentient beings. Next thing you know, THEY will try to take all of our precious bodily fluids and use them to create Commie-replicants who will forfeit billions in "defense" funding and use the money on schools, laboratories and books.
An don't git me started on the fluoride in tha water!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll bet thats why THEY took the water tower down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they're NOT out to git ya!
It's that Commie, Ben Franklin's fault!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
