What are your thoughts about the safety of the H1N1 vaccine? The Cranbury School is offering the vaccine to students. Just curious on thoughts....thanks!

I think I'll do it, but we have a child under 2 at home so I will inoculate all of us because of the safety risk. If I just had myself I probably would not, if I had teenagers I probably would not.

I got a notice in the mail today with a permission slip. Didn't say when vaccine would be administered. I believe the vaccine is only for kids enrolled in the school.

Our peditrician will alert us when it is ready so we can come in and get it.

Does anyone know the current extent of H1N1 or, since most cases are unconfirmed by lab testing now, "flu-like symptoms" in the school?

NJ is among the few states not currently classified as "widespread" in terms of H1N1 prevalence. But I hear anecdotally that cases are rising.

I correct myself. NJ is now classified as a state where H1N1 is indeed "widespread".

H1N1 Influenza Clinics
(Nasal spray and injectable vaccine)

All Middlesex County Public Health Department H1N1 clinics will be held based on vaccine availability.

H1N1 Target Populations:

Pregnant women
Household contacts and caregivers for children younger than 6 months of age
Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel
All people from 6 months through 24 years of age
Persons aged 25 through 64 years who have health conditions associated with higher risk of medical complications from influenza.

Children under 10 years of age will need two (2) doses of H1N1 vaccine. Please call to schedule an appointment for a second dose. (A second dose can not be given until at least 28 days has passed.)

Middlesex County to offer swine flu vaccines in South Plainfield

The H1N1 flu vaccine is readied before being given at Harding Town Hall on Oct. 22.SOUTH PLAINFIELD -- Middlesex County will offer 5,000 H1N1 vaccinations Thursday at the Police Athletic League building in South Plainfield.

Nasal and injectable vaccines will be available for individuals from ages 6 months and older. The vaccines will be administered from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the PAL building at 1250 Maple Ave.

Previously, vaccines had largely been reserved for school-age residents.

"This regional clinic provides our department the opportunity to offer H1N1 vaccines to a larger portion of the population," said Middlesex County Health Director David Papi.

Residents are urged to visit the county health department Web sitehttp://www.co.middlesex.nj.us/publichealth/flu-clinics.asp for forms that can be filled out before going to the clinic.

Just received the H1N1 vaccine tonight. Middlesex County had a great setup and no waiting even though there were alot of people wanting it. Real easy and fast. They have now opened it up to all Middlesex residents and it's FREE. That's what happens when it's paid for by the federal gov't.
