Residents worry that the demolition of the former Wrights Roses greenhouses will cause damaging effects.

Residents have raised concerns that demolition of the former Wrights Roses greenhouses are causing potentially harmful dust to drift toward residential areas and Cranbury School.

Several residents have approached Township Committeeman Thomas Panconi to complain about dust created by a demolition project on the Wright South property. They say the dust may contain arsenic and could be dangerous to children attending Cranbury School and seniors living at the Village Seniors housing complex.

Three other residents spoke at Monday's Township Committee meeting raising similar concerns.

But township officials say the site is safe and that contractors doing the work are taking all necessary safety precautions and are working within guidelines set by the state Department of Environmental Protection.

The township plans to build a Babe Ruth baseball field on a 12-acre portion of the Wright South parcel. The township purchased the property in 2001 and sold off 28 acres last year.
