During last nights Township Committee meeting the work session included public comment on the 9000 trees Cranbury Township is entitled to receive due to the Turnpike Widening project.
During this portion of the public comment I brought an idea to the Committee for a community garden on the Fisher property opposite the affordable housing on old cranbury road as we have what might me an ideal spot located their which I believe is close to a water hook up.
The good news is the idea was supported by all members of the Committee.
The key now will be the follow through on this initiative. |

I believe Connie Bauder and at times another woman in town have been suggesting this ever since the town acquired the property across the street from Fischer. I don't believe they cared whether it was on Fischer or across the street. I don't believe the TC ever went anywhere with it. Maybe Dan is more persuasive. |

I know Connie and will reach out to her as she can provide a lot of knowledge about such a plan. Thank you for the feedback. |

This would be a great addition to the town. I drive past the one in Plainsboro all the time and see quite a few people ou there working on the gardens. If the Fischer location doesn't work out, we could use the West property, near the school, and even incorporate a few of the classes into it. |

I love this idea -- of incorporating it with school programs. It also would be more centrally located to the Village walking traffic. But don't they have other plans for the West Property in the Master Plan -- future library, etc.? I wouldn't want the location to politically tie up something getting done. |

The school being involved would be ideal for either site. What would be better then having children from the school taking care of things they plant in the community garden. We could then get local farmers in town to possibly come out, give tips.
Its everything this town is about.
Great idea "Guest", thanks. |

I believe that there are some beekeeper hobbyists in town, Mrs. Quinn on liedke among them, that last year were looking for a place for their bee boxes. a community garden spot might be an ideal location. The school component is a good idea, but as a town there is an awful lot going on at the West property. The fisher farm might be a more peaceful and easy to use location, and if it has water there, all the better. fisher may also have fewer competing constituents which may make it easier to get it off the ground, or in the ground as the case may be. |

Nothing is going on the West property it is a protected environmental zone. |

Just an added comment. If the community garden is tied into a Cranbury school program; there is a good chance it could be funded by a foundation grant or even a governmental grant. Afterall, Obama is putting money into education in with a focus in math, science, and technology. |

Good thought.
Could it be tied to the school, but at the Fisher farm property? certainly not as convenient, but still workable I think. |

What kind of trees?
What species?
Are they little saplings?
We should get some wildflower seeds as well. You can get millions of seeds for hardly any money and they will grow back every year, more or less, forever. |

Wait, you can't associate the new community gardens in any way with the school!
If you do in a few years the Township will have to fund a second garden for all the people who don't want one that has anything to do with the school. |

I don't understand your point. This would be a community garden that would include EVERYONE in the community including children. Is there a movement in town that is age restricted that I don't know about? |

The poster is making a reference to the library situation I believe...not that he/she is saying this seriously about the garden. |
