Assisted living facilities?

We have an older relative who may need to move into an assisted living facility at some point. Initially probably somewhere where meals are served, etc but still relatively independent living but ideally the place would have an option for more in depth care as well if and when needed.

We're going to look at the Elms but can anyone recommend any others to consider? (And any to avoid?) I figure there must be a number in the area but we're not from here.

Also, anything else we should know/consider going in about assisted living in general, etc? It's our first experience with the whole thing and rather overwhelming.
