What's up with all the people in Shadow Oaks who didn't shovel their sidewalks? It's been 9 days since the storm passed and at least 1 in 3 home's public sidewalks aren't shoveled. It's the law that homeowners are supposed to do this within a day or so and its a matter of public safety. A vast majority of homeowners on Main Street did it. Why did so many people in Shadow Oaks blow it off? It is particularly rude to the neighbors who did shovel their sidewalks who walk in the neighborhood.

Is it really the law? If so please site the specific statute or ordinance. Thanks.

I was curious about this after I saw this post so I Google’d and couldn’t find anything specific, though on the Cranbury Township site they recommend calling the police department to report sidewalks not shoveled:

http://www.cranburytownship.org/department_locator.html

So I did and asked what the rule was. The officer I spoke with said that Cranbury does not yet have an enforceable ordinance on snow removal on sidewalks. He said it has been recommended to the Township Committee and is on a list of ordinances the Committee has to consider but he implied it was a long list and not necessarily a priority. He reiterated it was recommended. From my Google search it seems like quite a few Townships do have such rules and Cranbury may be more the exception than the rule.

In the meantime it’s a personal choice or sense of responsibility. Lucky for us most of the people on Main do so.

Wow, I thought the passed a snow removal ordinance 5 or 6 years ago. I thought it was a done deal. I wonder how it got hung up, does anyone remember?

A few TC members read this board so perhaps it's time to ask them to look into it.

For those not doing it in front of their houses, come on, do the right thing.

LOL that we have an ordinance in this town to require paid licensing of indoor house cats but none to require people keep public sidewalks safe.

Maybe the snow helps hide the easements to public park land.

If there is no ordinance requiring it why should I call the cops to report it?

Ha! That's right. The same neighborhood that wants to horde public land are the ones not shoveling their public sidewalks. I guess they get the good neighbors award all around.

I reside in Shadow Oaks ( with nose up in the air) why should I make my servants shovel snow? They are too busy polishing my silver.

Thank God we live in Cranbury and have problems like these to worry about... instead of something that actually matters like laying off cops or where to put the homeless...

Why would you assume North Main? There are a lot of modest homes along North Main.
