CRANBURY — The township awarded a bid for the installation of a sewer lateral for a washing station at the Public Works building on Dey Road.
The installation would cost $47,105, but would save the township money in the long term since the township no longer will have to sporadically pay large sums to wash Public Works vehicles when needed.
The township received three bids in October last year for the project and chose the bid submitted by Mario’s Concrete and Paving Company in Parlin.

How hard is it to wash a truck?
Get out a sponge and a hose!
So the trucks stay a little dirty, so what? |

Reduced lifespan of trucks/equipment. Corrosion to undercarriage. Etc. These are real costs, as you can see if you read the article it cost the town $10,000 in repairs last month. There are state-imposed requirements for controlling oil/chemical releases into water systems.
The town committee made a reasonable decision. If you have a viable alternative (based on actual information) I am sure the committee would be all ears. |

How about volunteers to wash the vehicles?
Give out cub scout badges or something for it. |

How about volunteers to wash the vehicles?
Give out cub scout badges or something for it. |
Come on, everyday in the winter you are going to ask volunteers, cub, or girl scouts to wash huge dirty trucks in 20 degree weather?
Are you volunteering to do this every weekday during the winter months?
That has to be one of the dumbest posts ever. |

C'mon Nancy, it'll build character!
When I was a youngin, I would wash fire trucks in minus 30 degree weather.............AND I LOVED IT!
It made me a better person fer it and dadgummit, it made me appreciate the indoors. |

They will when the system is installed. They are being mandated by the Govt. to have water drained to sewer lines instead of into the ground. That is why they are doing this from what i have read. the DEP or EPA are the ones forcing them to have the excess water routed into the sewer. |

| If the township is mandated to do this type of washing of vehicles; how about the responsibility of auto and truck repair facilities that we have on route 130 and also half acre road? When one considers the amount of steam cleaning, degreasing motors, and acid washing of trucks and trailers other than public works vehicles the impact is significant. |

Start a movement to have every garage have to do this then. Contact a local politician. Will you sit by and complain? Or do something to correct what is bothering you? |

| The township seems to care less about things if they aren't on MAIN STREET so the chances of getting any concern from the powers that be may not be so so good. The EC has no power and the Board of Health has in the past been intimidated by the Committee. The chances of getting some compliance is probably very slim. Its unfortunate that the township who is doing their part to protect our water from their own pollution needs to hope that some unknown entity will enforce the state regulations. So much for the coveted Home Rule. |

Huh? who are the powers that be? The township is simultaneously "...doing their part to protect our water..." and intimidating the board of health. I have no clue what you are talking about. |
