You realize you sound like a cliche? Ah, the good 'ol days, not like now with all that new-fangled progress...
Cranbury is still a small town, tiny compared to its neighbors on all sides or most townships in NJ. And most of the people I meet in town and at the school seem great. If newer residents are open-minded to both older and newer neighbors, and you are automatically dismissing them as spoilers who aren't showing proper respect for your idea of what the town should be, it really sounds like you are the intolerant one with the issue, not them. I have never been particularly sympatheic to people who take the position that growth was good for them when they or their families first moved into an area, but any more after them is bad. And when, exactly do you think it went bad? Are you just condemning the very latest homes? Or everything since Shadow Oaks in the 70's?
As far as I can tell, most people who move to Cranbury do so either because they like the idea of living on or near the historic Main Street village area, and that is a lifestyle choice, or they are primarily motivated by the school but like the overall package of Cranbury (smaller, more rural, still close to the train, nice Main Street and cheaper than Princeton with the same high school) versus the alteratives in the radius of the Central New Jersey area. Both perfectly good reasons, and in each case reasons that would tend to support preserving the village atmosphere of Cranbury rather than destroying it.
As it is zoned now, there's not much more room for Cranbuyr to grow, so this hardly seems like a compounding issue. As it is, getting to this point was inevitable. The population of the country has exploded since the days of the isolated farms here, and New Jersey has risen even faster. Its actually remarkable that the town has perserved as much farm and open land as it has against that tide of regional growth and seems to reflect that the people of this town have done a great job of prioritizing controlled growth and preservation of the heart and soul of the village. |

I remember the old cranbury...I still live there. Shadow Oaks came to town in the early 80's, but it is on the outskirts. I still know the people who have lived here forever when I see them around town (just go to Teddys in the morning). The Public works guys do a good job of keeping our open spaces and parks looking nice. Our Fire Co. and First Aid squad are comprised of 100% VOLUNTEER members of our Cranbury society, and the members of our Police force (although it has grown mostly because of our rateables and the increase in traffic and working population) are still active in the community (there are other sites where younger Cranburians have talked up the free pizza coupons! Isn't that nice that our children interact with our police on the right side of the law regularly) Cranbury Green and Silvers Lane don't intrude too much into the "Historic" nature of the town and we have the lovely Heritage Park because of it. You talk about "when it was a nice town, no traffic, no complaining"? What are you doing now? It seems the only one complaining is you. Even if we didn't have the new constuction, do you think we wouldn't have traffic? And last time I checked, there is still farmland and farmers in town. Just look at how high the corn is on Plainsboro Rd. It was definately knee high by the 4th of July. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. |

I love Cranbury, too!
Cranbury homes are the best "value" in the central NJ. Cranbury offers excellent schools, low property tax (keep my fingers crossed ), and easy access to major highways and train station. |

I like Cranbury too for the way it was and is. Truthfully, I have concerns over what it will become as more people move in. I've lived in Cranbury as a homeowner for 25 years, my parents for 60, grand parents and great grand parents as well.
The town has changed and evolved, some good some bad. It seems there is a mix of attitudes right now. HPC seems a bit controlling over how people can live in their homes and keep things as they are forcing older residents to maintain homes at a sever economic cost and the TC seems to be wanting change and growth with a tax cost.
Right now I'm concerned that the town will forget it's roots and start to try and become a miniature WW. The mention of free standing libraries, a community center, skate park and other items to me are out of character for the small town and concern for my taxes. I'd like to see us remain the small sleepy town with a good tax situation, a friendly atmosphere and good neighbors. It seems if a few people want things done and are vocal they will get it. |

I totally agree with you, old timer.
The election of a new TC member and a new mayor is due next year. I will support candidates who have the same view. |

I don't have a problem with the skate park, i remember looking for places to skate when I was younger, and wishing we had a skate park. Right now the kids skate at the school and firehouse parking lots, and they are not designed for this purpose (safety).
I too cannot see a free standing library. I like the one we have and it seems to serve our needs as well as the schools.
What is the community center you're talking about. I haven't heard of this before. |

The 2007 Cranbury Township Open Space and Recreation Plan mentions four possible uses of the Wright South parcel:
• a regulation baseball field;
• land designated for a library/community center;
• an open town green; and
• land designated for additional vehicular access and parking.

I have not heard of any plan for a skate park. |

The skate park got bounced from Wright a couple years before 2007 by Browne and Keener the planners hired to work on Wright South. The TC has been promising local skaters a park for around 20 years now. |
