| we'll soon be taking off for a month and we've not yet received our yearly cranbury tax bill what's going on? not a good way to run a township -- will there be an extension for 8/1/2011 payment |

The problem is that the state just a couple of weeks ago announced more state aid and then left it to the BOE to determine how the money would be spent- reduce school taxes, add back programs or keep for next year. The township mails tax bills for everyone- county, school, and municipal.
So my guess is the state delay led to a delay in mailing the tax bill. I am going to call the twp on Monday to see what my bill is and whether there is an extension as a result of the school aid decision. |

This is the correct reason for the delay, bills should be going out this week. The grace period for the bills being due is August 10 but we will look at extending the due date a little because of the mailing delay.

I was at town hall this morning for a meeting. The tax bills will be mailed today and there will be an extension until August 29.
If anyone has any questions you can contact Town Hall for more information.

| Me too, 6.17%. As long as your home wasn't re-assessed everyone's should have increased by the same percentage. |

| Here is what I find interesting. For all the posts and lack of order at the TC meetings the smallest tax increase is the town. Still not great to have to pay more, but for all the emails I got from the Rep chair I was expecting a lot worse than 90.00. Lesson learned for me that I really need to look more at the details. |

I think you are misrepresenting the posts here. They didn't suggest there would be a huge tax increase. They were about whether we needed any tax increase given the availability of a surplus and the probability that the state would be sending some money. Win Cody preferred to build a tax-flat budget that assumed the money would come and would use the surplus if it didn't. The other 4 preferred not to assume the money would come and not to tap what they saw as a tight surplus given upcoming obligations. It looks like the money did come for what its worth. |

| I also don't think everyone would agree with you that a "smaller than usual tax" increase is the right goal. There is no rule that our taxes should always go up. I think even a majority of the TC would agree with that, they just had to make some hard calls. |

I specifically stated that no tax increase was good. Please don't put words in my mouth that I said a smaller than usual tax increase is good even at the TC meeting no one wanted to raise taxes. I was receiving emails making it seem it would be on the hundreds of dollars. The one TC meeting I went to was disorganized about the taxes and I heard the Mayor state we were talking in the hundreds of dollars.
So my only comment was that it was less then I expected based on the comments I heard and read. |

Ok, but the increase is exactly what I read it would be. The percentage was publically available. And some people's increase was well into the hundreds. So I don't see where any of the previous statements were inaccurate.
Next year will be brutal again by the way. The overall tax base is expected to decline in the double digits again. |
