It might be useful for township public safety officials to tour the township tomorrow and make sure that items that could become missles in 80mph winds are removed or tied down.

There will also probably be trees down blocking roads etc. I hope township public works staff will on call to help clear the debris on the roads if necessary.

The Twp public works and police are on call and have been working hard to ensure the town is prepared. I am confident that Fire and EMS are also prepared in case of any emergency, which hopefully will not happen.

There should be a link from the Twp coming out, but if it does not I am posting the link and message here as well.

The Cranbury Twp Police Department and Office of Emergency Management urge our resident to prepare accordingly in anticipation of Hurricane Irene. The following link can assist you to better prepare for this weather related event.

The township police are "on call", that's funny. I thought we had a full time police department? Oh right, they work 24 hrs a day and never close or evacuate.

The Cranbury Fire Co. and Cranbury First Aid Squad are ready to answer calls for emergencies. Please remember to use 911 for emergencies only. For non emergent incidents, please use 609-395-0031.
Thank you
Michael Kervan
Chief
Cranbury Fire Co.

One of the most insightful posts on this forum. Sadly, I doubt the poster you are responding to will ever learn that lesson.

Good luck today!

Please pay attention to barricades and road closure signs. And please stay out of flood waters. They are there for your protection and the protection of rescue workers.

Next time we have a tornado warning, can we sound the alarm?

We don't have an alarm and since it is so infrequent to have a warning people would have no idea what the sound is if it even carried to them. However, I do understand the town is looking at the ability to do reverse 911 calls to alert people.

So now we want an alarm, just not when there is a fire.

Did you know fast moving water just above your ankles can knock you off your feet? Most people do not!

That’s why each year, more deaths occur due to flooding than from any other thunderstorm related hazard. Many of the deaths occur in automobiles as they are swept downstream. Of these drownings, many are preventable, but too many people continue to drive around the barriers that warn you the road is flooded. You will not know the depth of the water nor will you know the condition of the road under the water.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate the extra hard work of the township employees and volunteers during the storm.I just think it would be a good idea to look into a disaster alert above and beyond the fire alarm. At 11:15 on Saturday night, while most of Cranbury was sleeping, we had a tornado warning. That is a pretty scary and serious event that we don't seem to be prepared for.
