Good Morning! I’m writing to share the latest from FEMA regarding federal disaster assistance for the individuals and municipalities affected by Hurricane Irene. Late last evening FEMA announced that President Obama had added to the list of New Jersey counties eligible for disaster assistance. Here in Central New Jersey, individuals and households in Monmouth County, Hunterdon County, and Middlesex County are now eligible for individual assistance, joining Somerset County who had been declared earlier. Damage assessments are ongoing in Mercer County; upon completion of those assessments Mercer may also be added to the list for individual assistance. Additionally, Monmouth, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Somerset and Mercer Counties are eligible for public assistance (assistance to State and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities).
To submit a request for assistance, individuals can apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, apply via a smartphone at m.fema.gov, or apply by phone at (800) 621-3362 (TTY (800) 462-7585 for people with speech or hearing disabilities). An overview of the process can be found on FEMA’s website: http://www.fema.gov/assistance/index.shtm Our office will be working to get the word out on the application process but would appreciate your sharing this information with anyone who may find it helpful.
If you or anyone you know has questions or is having difficulty with the FEMA process, please do not hesitate to contact our office at 609-750-9365 (toll free 1-87-RUSH-HOLT). I expect to receive additional information in the coming days and will be in touch as I do.
