Dog Park

Cranbury should build a dog park. I have talked to a lot of people in the area and they seem interested. All the other towns have one. It would be great if we could get one in Cranbury!

That is a great idea, all for it. Why don't you start the fundraising for the purchase of the land, upkeep and insurance. I think it would add greatly to our community.

Don't forget to ask our neighbors in East Windsor, Plainsboro, Hightstown and South Brunswick to send donations also since we will have to open the dog park up to everyone who wants to use it. It will be a great thing for Middlesex and Mercer County residents to use and enjoy. Just imagine all the nice people and dogs this will attract to our town. I can't wait to meet all the new people.

Oh no a dog park in Cranbury - sorry for even suggesting it. It is pretty funny that the surrounding towns all have dog parks. And the people who live in this town have a lot more money then the other towns. Just to let you people know, there are no gates in Cranbury to keep the "others" out! I guess we should get rid of the swings at the park for all the "new" people who might want to use them. I didnt know people with dogs are bad people, hmmm you learn something new every single day!!!

Serious questions. How do we ensure the dogs are vaccinated? Where does the maintenance cost come from? Would there be a real use or like the ball field only a small group of interested people.

I am not opposed to out of towners. However, on a number of occasions when I wanted to use our only soccer fields with the kids they were used by out of towners and it seems like a regular thing. On one hand it's nice it's used on the other we do pay the costs for maintaining it. So I'd like to see some sort of control where we can ensure Cranbury residents have some sort of priority.

We used to try to use the dog park in Plainsboro but gave up. Unless you plan in advance with other dog owners, the odds of having other dogs there are the same time as you was low. Went half a dozen times, various hours and days but all with good weather and what should have been reasonably peek times and only encountered a couple other dogs/owners.

Tried the one at Mercer Community Park a couple times and always proved a waste. It seems closed often due to health problems.

If it could be created with money from donations and was so inexpensive to maintain that it worked within the existing resources/budgets, sure why not try it. Otherwise, I can't see it happening with our finances so tight right now. As it is, the Township has to cut existing budgets just to keep tax increases modest.

Just for the record we have had the issue of "Out of Towners' using our parks brought up by a long time local realtor. That realtor wanted to restrict park use to Cranbury residents only. The issue was discussed but the outcome was that because we have accepted funds from outside Cranbury we are obligated to allow residents of other towns to use our parks. As a matter of practicality it looks like unless we fund this entirely with our own $$$ we can't restrict useage---- and we shouldn't! I hope this does not get implemented as it will be just another drain on our meager resources.
