As a related point, failure to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalks has been problematic lately. Several times last week alone there have been motorists that failed to yield to walkers well into the crosswalk, despite having plenty of time to do so. One old coot had the nerve to raise his hand at a middleschooler as he drove through the cross walk without slowing. The kid was alert enough to stop and notice the car was not stopping. Going to start getting license plate numbers if I see this again.

Agreed. People who do this shouldn't be licensed to drive. Pedestrians always have the right of way at crosswalks.

If you have an iPhone (or similar), capture the act on video; post the video on the Internet and give it to the police.

Indeed. Perhaps they will find posting snide remarks on a forum to be more fulfilling.

On point, there have been a few pedestrian/bicycle vs. auto accidents on Main St in recent years. While I think our town enjoys greater courtesy of pedestrians in cross walks than some other towns I go to, we can improve. I'd also encourage the reporting of unsafe driver behavior to the police - on Maint St or elsewhere.

I'd sure like to see crosswalks be safer. Three cheers to the Township for making these changes!

Not very kind or neighborly to say. Why do people feel they can be so mean just typing anonymously.

Neighboring townships have actually been setting up "traps" at crosswalks.

A plain clothes officer is the decoy steps into cross walk, a marked police car past the cross walk stops the vehicle that fails to yield.

The person if standing in the crosswalk (stepped off curb) has the right of way. Someone standing on the curb before entering the cross walk does not.

The pedestrian must be completely across and out of the cross walk, before the vehicle may cross.

Brother in law is a police officer and was on detail last couple days doing this. He told me other towns also cracking down on this.

Most get off with warnings however the more blatant ones, I guess riskier more careless ones get tickets.

Not happening in Cranbury. No revenue from tickets so they don't care.
