If you have an iPhone 6/6+ and are interested in Apple Pay, please read on.
Apple Pay is a secure, wireless payment scheme that does not send your credit card info to merchant to make a purchase; this eliminates the risk of your credit card info being obtained by hackers from merchant’s systems.
For example, hackers obtained millions of shoppers’ credit card info from Home Depot and Target this year. My Fidelity AmEx card was used by thieves to purchase more than $3,000 of stuff while the card was in my wallet.
Currently, Apple Pay works at ShopRite, Walgreens, Staples, Target, Macy’s, Wegmans, McDonald's, Subway, Panera Bread, etc.
To set up Apple Pay (assuming you already have set up Touch ID to sign in using one of your fingerprints):
1. Settings --> Passbook & Apple Pay --> Add Credit or Debit Card.
2. Touch the “camera” icon to take a photo of your credit card.
3. Enter Expiration Date (if needed) and Security Code of the credit card.
4. Submit the info to see if your card is accepted for Apple Pay.
5. If your credit card is accepted, it will prompt you to verify the card. You will need to call a toll-free number to speak to a representative of your card company or enter a code sent by email or text to you.
6. Once step 5 is completed, your card is ready for Apple Pay. You will receive confirmation email about the card being added for Apple Pay.
So far, I have added 6 cards to the Passbook App for use with Apple Pay. You can pick which one to use in the Passbook App, and the Passbook App will notify you whenever a card has been used.
I tested it at a local ShopRite: pointed my iPhone at the card reader at checkout, placed my finger on the Touch ID, and it worked flawlessly.
