How humiliating for this Community that these people were paid $5.00 or $5.50 per hour . This decision was made by Township employees who are paid ridiculous salaries, benefits, pensions etc. Whether obligated by law or not , do the fair thing, pay the back pay, and raise the rate in the future to $15.00. Do it without being forced to by a lawsuit and further humiliate this community.
In the future, find out what the parameters of the law are in advance on all topics, not guesses, $100,000 plus per year with lifetime pension and benefits from the taxpayers deserves well informed performance, not assumptions. |

Additionally, if you are looking for an exact answer, ask a Township employee how many unused sick days they have accumulated over the years and intend to invoice the Taxpayers when they retire. |

https://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/whdfs18.htm
Seasonal and recreational establishments: Employees employed by certain seasonal and recreational establishments are exempt from both the minimum wage and overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. You may also wish to review the applicable regulation.
https://www.nj.gov/labor/wagehour/content/childlabor_RateofPay.html
Certain places are not required to pay minimum wage. Some examples are nursing homes, boardwalk and other seasonal amusements, summer camps, professional offices, and libraries. However, jobs related to food service in any of those places must pay the minimum wage. For example, an office worker in a nursing home can be paid less than the minimum wage, however, a dining room waitress in the nursing home must be paid minimum wage. |

Thank you to the above poster for facts.
This thread is being run by Indivisible and their supporters -yet again to try and create problems. Who else would be looking for an activist community organizer site in New Brunswick? Note the push to pay a highschool kid 15 an hour now despite that not being the law which is 8.85 now. Look at their public portion of FB and you will see their push for 15. Not rocket science to connect the dots.
Sadly, we have a TC with two members of Indivisible on it. Look at the votes. Instead of Mike realizing he won by just 11 votes and should work with the TC he regularly opposes those who have helped the town with no facts behind him. Why abstain on Dan as Deputy Mayor if not to pacify indivisible?
This group is dangerous to Cranbury and our community, most residents see this. Please don’t give them a Forum. |

Failing to see what any of this has to do with Dan Mulligan or why this means he has to go.
Indivisible is seriously grasping at straws here. |

Title of this topic seems to have nothing to do with the substance of it. Someone is trolling. |

The net result of this unless they determine that they have been adhering to the rules correctly despite the challenge will be a significant reduction in the number of local students they can employee as summer counselors.
Cranbury Rec Camp has barely been hanging on for years. In the last few years they have cut back the number of weeks each counselor can work because they don't have enough campers to justify them. They already offer about 4 weeks of work on average where it once was 7 weeks.
Will they fire all the senior counselors who make more money and almost entirely rely on the free "counselors in training" or hire fewer new counselors? Instead of hiring 4 new ones each year they would need to hire just 1-2 and eventually that would create fewer higher paid senior counselors.
Or is this the final nail in the coffin for Cranbury Rec in general? If they have to absorb back pay it may be unless the Township bails them out. |

Advocating $15.00 is done purely in the sense of Fairness. No association with any Activist Group, Indivisible( whatever that is) or anything else. Just Fairness So now we have the Statute that allows certain entities the right to deny someone a Fair Wage.
So what next, appropiate $70,000 to the Township Attorney to defend this $7,00 lawsuit? What did it say on these College Kids paychecks Cranbury Summer Camp or Cranbury Township? And where did the money come from to pay them, boardwalk games or Cranbury Township.
Whoever thinks this is fair, remember in the future when you may be in a Nursing Home, dying from improper care because no one will stay on these jobs due to this weasel Statue, take comfort in that it is perfectly legal.
Want to make the Activist go away, Be the Bigger Person, provide them with nothing to be Active with.
And when giving interviews, speak as if you know what is going on, or decline comment. |

Who's talking about "college kids." Most of the counselors in question are 14-18 year-old high schools students. There's a few college students at most, and they are the highest paid of the counselors. Most of the counselors move on to better jobs or internships by the time they are in college. |

for some reason the township runs a surplus. Admit you are wrong and pay. Is it that difficult?
And then move on. |

Maybe next time the lawyer shouldn't ignore when someone contacts him. I mean he gets paid to wok for the township, correct?
And our mayor could share the info he receive, which he probably did, but with Dan being a tea party product he just wanted to be a D-I-C-K. |

Actually I think the article is good example of good journalism. There were interviews and facts presented and the intricacies of the legal issues involved were explored.
Then, at the end of the article, Dan Mulligan chimed in with his attack on the media and over-reacted to the press doing their job and citizens being interested in the issue. It seems that other members of the TC were interested in getting to bottom of this particular issue.
My neighbors say that Mr. Mulligan has his roots in the Tea Party wing (now Trump) of the Republican Party. It not pleasant to see Trump tactics on display from members of our TC. Mulligan’s contentiousness, lack of civility and hostility to transparency are certainly not appreciated by the majority of the folks who live here. At least Mulligan could show concern that some of our youngest Cranbury employees were perhaps underpaid
So I hope he will not be re-elected to his TC position. |
