Greetings Friends and Neighbors,

I hope everyone who was in town on Monday enjoyed the touring parade! Thanks to the members of our DPW, fire and police departments who took time out of their day to honor our fallen soldiers and create a memory for everyone in Cranbury. And, while they don’t parade so that we can thank them for all that they do for us, people certainly appreciated the opportunity to do so.

Thanks as well of course to the Cranbury Lions. Their efforts in organizing and producing events for our town is so very important to us! Their help in pulling together the parade as well as the poster and essay contest for Memorial Day this year are testaments to that fact. Thank you Lions!

There are a couple of other items I want you to be aware of.

Monroe had requested a state DOT prohibition on truck traffic on three county roads in their township last year. The state DOT declined their overall request, but has agreed to re-examine the request for one of those three roads. They are conducting a new traffic study and requesting supporting resolutions from neighboring towns. Cranbury opposed the original request because of expected increased traffic on route 130 in our township and will not be supporting the new revised request. A state DOT decision will be announced in July. We in the town government are keeping a close on these developments and will do everything in our power to ensure a outcome that is beneficial to our residents.

A vibrant downtown is an important asset to any town. The Township Committee plans to create a new Economic Advisory Committee to spearhead efforts to support and attract businesses, highlight our historic assets, and encourage the community to make the most of our downtown village. We are looking for people to appoint to this committee. It’s been one of my goals since joining the Township Committee to encourage the involvement of people who haven’t yet been a part of our township’s many councils and committees; I hope that through this email I’m reaching some people who otherwise would not have been aware of this new initiative. Background in real estate, marketing, a small business, community organizing or urban development are great qualifiers, but the most important is an interest in being part of this downtown effort and the desire to devote some time and energy. We hope to organize the group of five in the next couple of weeks. Please email me to learn more.

Finally, and probably most importantly to many residents, Gil & Bert’s opens today. I’m expecting long lines...

Well if your expecting long lines I hope they line up on their own property and not township sidewalks. It was nice without a the garbage associated with this place all over town.

As a suggestion, start by requiring business owners to keep their property clean and orderly. Some, have large yards with shipping containers for storage , old racks and other junk all over their yards. Case in point, Southeast corner of Park and Main.

Not just business owners. Many homes have yards that do not meet the maintenance code either from really tall grass, to poison ivy next to the sidewalk to branches hanging so low you need to walk in the street.

True, what is the point of a BS Committee when the current ordinances are ignored.

Speaking of ignoring ordinances --What happened to the monthly zoning reports? The mayor made that one of his Things to Do but considering he just does what he wants and starts his projects without HPAC approval time after time. How can we expect things to get better?

What about the sidewalk ordinance? I walked Main Street yesterday and saw that the Mayor’s own sidewalk is in need of repair in parts. Is that why a change of standing law for years that works is now up for change?

Well..... guess which Street will have new sidewalks installed at taxpayer expense first if an Ordinance is passed.

Come on seriously, it will be central Main St the only street visible from TC offices.
