The historic lives of the African American women, children and men, some war heroes, in the Pennington African Cemetery should matter. Sadly, that does not seem to be the case for developers John and Michelle Schragger, owners of J&M Schragger LLC, who reportedly rejected a full price offer for the property for sale adjacent to the Pennington African Cemetery. After years of legal battles between the developer and PAC volunteers, the Pennington community rallied to protect the history, honor and dignity of the African American Men, Women, Children and War Heroes buried in the Pennington African Cemetery. However, in a disgraceful maneuver, J&M Schragger reportedly rejected the full price offer and raised their price by $100,000.
The Pennington African Cemetery dates back to 1863, before slavery was abolished. We can be sure that the people buried in the Pennington African Cemetery had challenging lives and while we cannot change the difficult lives they lead, we can ensure that the people in the Pennington African Cemetery Rest In Peace. Please build awareness and take action to help bring this contentious issue to a respectful resolution. For more information, please go to...
