Mayor's Update - July 28, 2021
Dear Cranbury Residents,
Summer is moving forward quickly. I hope you’re taking a chance to enjoy the warm weather, unplug a bit, and resume your favorite summer traditions after the 2020 pause.
It’s been great to see the Cranbury Summer Rec campers around town, enjoying a “small town summer” that was recently featured in the Cranbury Press – congratulations to the Recreation Commission for their flexibility in crafting a fun summer of activities.
A bit further afield, the Cranbury Scouts Troop 52 trek to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico was a success (65 miles backpacked and 9927 feet achieved!), and a separate crew canoed for a week in northern Minnesota, while two other crews are attending summer camp in Bucks County.
August Tax Bills are arriving today, and the August 1 grace period has been extended to August 23 due to a delay in the tax rate from the county. Municipal taxes are flat, School taxes are down slightly, and the County taxes increased slightly; the net effect is a $55 per year increase on the average property valuation of $607,411. Check out the included resident update produced by our Economic Development Advisory Committee. Since you’re reading this, you’re getting our e-Alerts, but please feel free to remind your neighbors to sign up if they aren’t already! http://www.cranburytownship.org/subscribe
August 3 – National Night Out. The Cranbury Police P.B.A. members sponsor this annual event in Village Park after the 2020 hiatus. Stop by for complimentary food and fun starting at 5:00 p.m.!
September 11 – Cranbury Day and Helene Cody 5K race. Look forward to a day of fun and community connection. There will be a special moment to honor those lost on 9/11/2001. The Helene Cody 5K will be on a new course starting and stopping behind the Cranbury School and running through the Cranbury Brook Preserve and around Wynnewood Drive.
Public Library Construction. Construction has begun at 30 Park Place West! Look for a June 2022 completion and grand opening. A new web page is coming soon, as well as a new graphic identity for the library. We’re grateful to the residents (past and present) who donated to make this project happen, matched by the NJ Construction Library Bond Act Grant.
Brainerd Lake Dredging. The lake will be dredged this fall to remove sediment; the first time since the 1970s. FAQs are posted on the township page and can be found here.
COVID Vaccine Update. Vaccines continue to be available to all 12+ residents. As of July 19, almost 100% of our adult residents have received at least one dose of vaccine, leading Middlesex County. More than 93% of our adult residents are fully vaccinated.
See you at Cranbury Day on September 11!
Regards,
Michael Ferrante, Mayor
