Is this really a good use of local government time/resources? Asking for a friend. |

Ask your "friend" what "government resources" he's asking about? Are the presenters getting paid? The Mayor is on a fixed token stipend whether this event happens or not. |

??? What resources are used when on the Board of Health are volunteers, and all the presenters of these presentations have been volunteers.
I asked a friend, so maybe tell your friend who apparently lives in Trollville. |

The Mayors wellness campaign was started under Jay. I highly doubt the TC at that time which was frugal was authorizing or supporting money for this program. So I am confident that we’re not spending any monetary resources now. |

So in other words, the person "asking for a friend" was just trolling, either because they were bored or desperate to try and invent something to complain about. |

Since you asked for a friend, I'll answer. I'm hoping your friend will feel a little silly after hearing the answer.
I am the Chair of the Board of Health. I'm also the Township Veterinarian. I also decided to start the Mayors Wellness Campaign, a statewide initiative to improve the wellbeing of towns. Before I had the wonderful committee I now have I decided to singlehandedly start the Zoom sessions. I worked hard to get the powers that be to agree to be part of it, and it began in Feb. 2020. I lined up every speaker/presenter myself, and host every session from my Zoom account.
For all of these things I am paid nothing. The presenters are paid nothing. The members of my committee are paid nothing. If your friend would like to take up a collection to contribute to our initiative, perhaps the township would be happy to accept that money and put it towards future initiatives? Obviously, I can't speak for the township here, though.
I feel sorry for your friend. Their world must be so small and dark.

In full disclosure, I voted for the referendum. But I will acknowledge that it was done outside of the November election in the hopes fewer people would vote including the snow birds who leave in fall for Florida. The referendum was clearly geared to maximize the chances of passage. |

The reason for the timing of the referendum election was discussed at the info session I attended. It was fully explained that the required plan approvals from the department of education were delayed due to covid and couldn’t meet the Nov election deadline. Even for a December election, there was a good turnout. The option to vote by mail enabled anyone who wanted to participate, even from Florida or elsewhere. |

I heard that at the info session. They knew they would be needing a referendum and everyone not under a rock knows Covid is delaying things especially with the state. The school works a lot with the state and would have known about potential delays long ago. Referendums are not just decided quickly in a couple months time.
So either they were poor in planning which does not bode well for this project or they knew what they were doing and did not want a November vote and found an excuse. December turnout was no where near the general election turnout and off cycle never will be because people forget. So the plan worked. |

Some people are clearly bitter losers. They start a fake post about this volunteer activity being a waste of resources just to try and backchannel that into another rehash of the school referendum. Which passed with by a wide margin of victory. And snowbirds had plenty of opportunity to vote by mail.
But, sure, let's pretend that despite months of public meetings, transparency of the costs and scope available on public websites and plenty of naysayers here and elsewhere getting to say their problems with it over and over, that the result was underhanded. Because some people just can't accept that they did't get their way or that their views aren't shared by the majority.
It must be tough to walk around mad at the world. |
