I wonder if everyone's Halloween decorations that are still unnecessarily displayed survived yesterday's storm? If they didn't, that's just another reason you SHOULD take them down after Halloween (but before Thanksgiving).

Who has Halloween decorations up?? I see a ton of Christmas decorations. Maybe a few pumpkins on porches but that is about it.

Dear Shadow Oaks: now that Christmas is over, perhaps your resident can take down the Christmas decorations featuring a decapitated skeleton with its rib cage on fire.

Why do you care? What if the person left it up all year? Seems like no harm at all.

We had out of town visitors during the Christmas break who really enjoyed the Christmas decorations throughout Cranbury. The beautiful Christmas lights across homes, the lit lamp post wreathes in town, garland, red bows, signs of joy, and especially the manger at the Firat Presbyterian Church, a beautiful reminder to everyone about the true meaning behind Christmas- the birth of Jesus Christ… oh and yes, they even shared a smile at the whimsical display of blow up characters that seemed to have taken over a side yard of a certain Main Street home.

However, when it came to the two story skeleton, dragons, and whatever other demonic fire breathing creatures that “greeted” those entering Washington drive in Shadow Oaks… the reaction was quite the opposite. Whereas the home owner certainly has the “right” to adorn their property however they like, that is not the issue.

The issue is a lack of taste.

Displays of this nature, during an important time of Christian celebration of the birth of Christ is nothing short of disrespect for the reason of the season. And disrespectful to the many neighbors, and their guests who can’t help but shake their heads at what the world is becoming when baby Jesus gets replaced with a fire breathing demon.

This post is hilarious. So these supposed visitors were charmed by dozens of plastic blow ups of mostly comical figures that have absolutely nothing to do with the birth of Jesus or "nature" but horrified and offended by clearly lighthearted displays of skeletons and other make-believe ghouls?

To say it's disrespectful to Christmas is completely arbitrary. Outside of going to church, absolutely none of the traditions of Christmas have anything to do with the birth of Jesus or Christianity. Not Santa, snowmen, Christmas trees, etc. Not even the time of year its celebrated. December 25 was a Roman Pagan holiday that was adopted by the converting Roman empire as a bridge between the old and new religions. There's zero evidence it is near the time of Jesus's birth but it has a Pagan history that long predates Christianity. So, arguably, symbols of the supernatural (animated skeletons, werewolves and ghosts) are at least as appropriate to the season as Santa or snowmen (both also supernatural figures with no place in the Bible).

More importantly, mind your own business. Why do people feel the need to seek out offense? Why do you feel the need to control other people? Whether it's deciding what to do on their properties or how they identify or who they want to partner with, live and let live. Don't be a jerk. It's also interesting that jerks always can dish it out, but rarely take it, all according to their own arbitrary standards. The moment you say distaste is the reason to criticize what someone does in their yard, its fair game to whine about why you chose an ugly color for your house or don't trim the bushes correctly. Same fruit from the same tree. Or you can just live your life and stop worrying about how other people choose to live theres.

Kudos to anon-opr0 who asks "Why do people feel the need to seek out offense?" A worthy question indeed.

The following post...whelp, they returned the thread quickly back to its pitiful origins.
