Didn't they just revise the signage ordinance?

I didn't track final approval at the TC but what they proposed for passage did not allow banners or any temporary signage on Main Street other than sandwich boards which were previously not legal but now will be. They discussed the neon and electronic signage like that used at the Bagel Barn and the bike shop at the public hearings and declined to legalize it.

So why not just enforce the ordinance?

If someone doesn't like these just call the Township zoning officer and ask for enforcement action.

I don't think it is worse than the lottery sign in the Bagel place. I find legalized gambling advertisement in out town more offensive.

I totally agree that the lottery sign in the Bagel place is horrendous. In fact, they have so much signage in their windows, you can't even see inside. It looks very sloppy. I think the Blue Rooster gets away with alot in this town and now others are starting to push the envelope.

I don't want to put words in your mouth, but as I read this you seem to be blaming the Blue Rooster for the Bagel Barn signage? Really?

It's more of a case of "monkey see, monkey do." I think Bagel Barn took it to an extreme. It's only a matter of time before other businesses decide to slap banners and signs all over their windows. Remember all the junk that was attached to Cranbury Delights? Hmmm...maybe that space is just a magnet for random signage.

I think that its just a matter of what ones personal taste is. However, The township has gone to great lengths to preserve a historical heritage and signage is one of those things that has been regulated in the past. I am aware that many businesses have been asked to take down signs that are not conforming with the building codes. Luckily this one looks temporary and the owners could easily remove it if it is deemed non conforming. Im sure if you were to look at their planning board approval you would be able to see if it is an allowed use. Until then everyone will beaware that dinner is being served!

I don't understand what's wrong with the banner. It looks fine to me.

We love going to the BR as a family - its one of the only restaurants in the area with food on par with NYC and the ambiance of a B&B. Hope that everything works out for all parties and the new owners keep all the things we love (especially the mini pastry basket!)

I'm actually surprised they held on as long as they did. It was far too big of an endeavor for them. I think they'll have to drop their price significantly - not sure who will pay $400k for a business that only nets $50k.

The FF&E is $250K + the $800K real estate value, which would mean you're paying $150K for the business if you accept their #'s. And 3X net profit is a decent deal if all those numbers are right. Of course #'s those need to be scrutinized and negotiated.

Listing, as posted on broker's website:

Take another look at the listing...if you only want to purchase the business, it's $400k.

Can someone explain why the Blue Rooster is so polarizing?

Two reasons:

1) What isn't polarizing on this site? Seriously, it's hard to think of something. Either someone asks a real question or posts a friendly FYI and basically no one comments or we get a lot of polarized comments.

2) Some people do not feel that the co-owner/woman who runs the Blue Rooster is friendly to her customers. Some people have had the opposite experience. But with a handy anonymous board it's easy for anyone even slightly offended, or the competition, to trash people. And in general there are people who post here that try to feel better about their pathetic little lives by trashing everything. They wouldn't have the guts to do it in-person of course.

aside from first and third post, the rest of the posts offer nothing but an inside glimpse into some of the pathetic citizenry of Cranbury .. surely the posts show lack of intelligence and moral compass
