if you are really convinced of this I am sure the records can be found via open public records request

I think having our own court is a great idea. We can keep our money from tickets plus all the revenue that the Troopers bring in from the Turnpike. I'm sure between the Troopers and Cranbury Cops it would make money.
Why do we pay Plainsboro? I think it's time we at the very least renegotiate the $100,000 we give them each year plus allow them to keep all the money generated from Cranbury.
What did the people who negotiated that deal get in return for themselves???
As far as Plainsboro helping poor broke Cranbury, I have to laugh at that idea...sorry..that's funny.

Bottom line is the town has grown and grown from years ago. A court in Cranbury would be a win win for the Township.
This is not the case, in the last year the court broke even from expenses vs revenue. When the court was in Cranbury drug offenses and other more serious charges were heard. Given the court was near the school and the potential for these people to interact it was a concern that cost and potential interactions were not worth it for Cranbury.

I heard the Police are moving into the PNC building so we can raze the police station and build COAH housing. Having the cops on Main St. would probably slow down traffic, too. Plus, instead of a holding cell, we could throw detainees in the vault!

Does Plainsboro report on how much ticket revenue they get from Cranbury?

I think one of the problems is that we don't have a physical place for the Court to be held. When the new police station was built, I believe it was decided to not include a courtroom because of trying to keep down the costs of the building. So if we now want to have our own court, we will have to add onto the police building.

It is a waste discussing solutions that are just not viable. Maybe Plainsboro would donate police services to the impoverished people of Cranbury.
Mr. Cody has responded. Lets allow him to do what he stated on this forum and pursue realistic approaches, working the Cranbury Police, to deal with traffic issues .
Crantaxpayer- no need for snyde remarks. Mr. Cody asked for ideas. He can decide if this idea has merit. IMO, I think the question is worth asking. If Plainsboro views the opportunity on an incremental basis, they may be interested. If not, they'll say no without wasting much time. Either way, it is an idea.

I was driving 27mph (I think) on Cranbury Main St. on my way to buy food/things from my favorite Cranbury store. A Plainsboro police stopped me and wrote me a speeding ticket for doing 31mph! I had no idea I was driving that fast. Darn, I will not go back to that <insert a Cranbury store name here> again; it's not worth it!
A phone call from a friend of a Cranbury resident: Geez, I just got a ticket on Main St.! I was on my way to your home, and this cop (I think a Plainsboro cop) stopped me and told me I was driving too fast!
That makes no sense whatsoever. That person was speeding whether 27 or 31. If they got a ticket and never went to that area again then the Turnpike, GSP, 287, Nassua St, Princeton Hightstown Rd, etc...would all have minimal traffic. Highsttown is known for giving tickets when you're only a few miles over and their businesses do well. Allentown is the same.
These statements all have the person speeding first. I will tell you now that the majority of people are fine. Let's not look at false reasons for businesses to fail there are plenty of real reasons.

This assumption seems to be quite a stretch.

Exactly. The incremental costs of adding Cranbury's cases to the Plainsboro Court is more efficient and quite probably a profit center for Plainsboro. Otherwise, why would they agree to this arrangment?
It also seems possible that the incremental cost of writing a few traffic tickets in Cranbury may also provide an additional profit center for Plainsboro. If so, they may be interested. If not, they won't. The only way to know is to ask them.

It is a waste discussing solutions that are just not viable. Maybe Plainsboro would donate police services to the impoverished people of Cranbury. Cranbury pays Plainsboro over 100,000 a year to use the court. This fee pays for the additional personell required to handle the added caseload. The court service is not paid for by revenues from tickets written in Cranbury. This is a misconception.
If Main Street is that much of a boone for ticket revenue why wouldnt we have our own officers writing the tickets?
We live in a nice town. It is safe and it has a good school. If we want additional services we will have to pay for them. There is no free lunch. We need to be realistic not "pie in the sky."

I don't want to fan. I know people are trying to think outside the box but I think the idea of Plainsboro taxpayers donating police services to Cranbury is just not realistic. Plainsboro has Route 1. Main street in Cranbury just doesn't provide enough revenue to justify pulling officers away from route 1 or patrolling their village roads which have the same speeding issues as Cranbury. If speed is that much of an issue of concern from my fellow taxpayers then the township Commitee should consider paying Cranbury officers overtime to work special speed enforcement details or they should consider hiring more officers. I am not in favor of either unless it is advised by the chief of police. Ultimately the decisions on how to control speed or enforce traffic laws must be made by the police chief. As a taxpayer I can express my concerns and expect them to be
addressed. I expect the people that are elected to select the best people to run the services and to provide them with tools they need to do it, without bankrupting the taxpayer.

If we want Cranbury Main St. to be a traffic-ticket profit center for Plainsboro, I bet they will have motivation to come here and write as many tickets as possible.
If this happens, the implication is drivers who got tickets will "hate" Cranbury.
