His number is 732-249-2611. If you know someone who is interested and concerned please give them this name and number. It was interesting to learn that this widening project has been on the books for over 10 years, most likely when Shadow Oaks was originally designed the County made the builder widen the road where the development was to be built, and had the other sections where homes were already established slated for a later date. As if living on OLT Road isn't hard enough it is upsetting to hear the residents talk about how the government can come in and just take what they need. If a hearing is scheduled and the County comes to talk please try and make the meeting, this could be any of us, these residents need our support.[/quote]

BTW, it's not even true that it's 50 all the way until Sloan. It slows down in a few places where it passes more residential areas, all the way to 35 MPH for that matter.

In any event, you're wrong about the facts. OTR is 40 everywhere from 571 until it ends except this residential section between One Mile Road (speed doesn’t change at Ancil Davison) and Main Street. It is 40 MPH before this section and it is 40 MPH after this section. What it is a couple miles away in a different county doesn't seem particularly relevant but everyone’s entitled to an opinion. No one here has supported adding lanes or reducing it to 35 MPH. People would like to see it preserve the consistent speed of 40 MPH that exists before and after this stretch. And logically it make little sense to support a slower speed along the business park between 571 and One Mile Road than along the residential and park stretch where the speed is currently increased to 50 MPH.
Dude sorry but the person who wrote this is right and sorry but you are wrong.

Are you really that dense that you can't see the difference between the relevance of the sections in East Windsor and Cranbury which are physically adjacent to the section in question being more meaningful than lengths of the road completely detached from the section?
If you want to ignore the speed of road on either side of the 50MPH section and say, well it's 50 MPH somewhere else so why not this little stretch surrounded by 40 MPH sections too, then logic isn't in your vocabulary and there's no point in discussing it.
As for the idea that some of the residents (but not all) bought after the road was 50 MPH, so? Speed limits change over time to reflect the character and use of the road. For over two decades this section has been predominately residential. It’s simply not the same area it was when it was a country farmland road. And now the reality of the road is people have to drive 40 MPH through a business park and 40 MPH through the adjacent residential area to the 130 anyway. So what’s the point of encouraging them to speed up through the residential and park area just to slow down again? Especially when some of the area is extremely narrow with no side to the road? Clinging to the idea of what the road was like when Ford was in office is just silly.

Except that guidance has been around for a while and it doesn't seem to be a standard for many of the roads in this state, including many that have only been created since then. Ancil Davison and parts of Cranbury Neck and Plainsboro and Dey, etc. are all 50 MPH. Other roads are 45. Old Trenton just beyond this affected stretch is already 40 MPH despite being a residential area and being a relatively new road. Those standards are like rules in the Engllish language -- there are more exceptions than the rule.

Because they know everyone has been asking for 40 MPH for years and they don't want to lose face or perceived power by doing what was asked. By picking a different speed they get to still assert their arbitrary power and they probably realize it will lead to all kinds of problems so this way they will be able to say "I told you so" when the speed has to be changed again. Losers.
It reminds me of the way the highway repair workers in my previous state would always wait until just before the major car travel holidays to intentionally setup for a major construction project they didn't have any intent of starting until after the holiday, so that the lanes would be reduced despite no work and create multiple hour-long bottlenecks on the major freeways for the holiday. They loved the power to screw people over. It was well understood they did this on purpose and would laugh about it over beers, etc...

This is going to be a fiasco. 35 mph is too slow for that road. 40mph is the correct speed as pointed out by all residents who asked for a change. Plus, what will happen someday is a traffic study and the county will raise it to 50 again due to the design speed.
Further, this will push traffic over to Cranbury Neck Rd or other roads depending on the destination, thus increasing traffic on the other roads and reducing the balance today.
Why does the county have to complicate matters? Can't they look at the past township ordinances and say the town has asked for 40, let's do 40? It seems like this is just the county being difficult so residents will complain and then they can say is nothing good enough for you?
BTW, the widening is money spent on jobs so no way would the county not spend the one million plus. This is a handout for a project regardless of needed or not.

Leave it to public works engineers to over complicate everything -- they seem to have a natural aversion to anything simple or logical. In this case logic says that if the road is 40 MPH before this strech and 40 MPH after this stretch (traveling from either direction) that the speed that will lead to the least confusion or people violating it is 40 MPH. But, no, that makes way too much sense for them.

Here's a bit of an update:
Several Cranbury residents, as well as Freeholder Jim Polos have been trying to get in touch with the responsible Freeholder, Carol Barrett about the redesign of the road as well as the lack of notification. She has not returned calls or emails, even to Mr. Polos.
Tonight (April 22nd), there is a Freeholder's meeting that is open to the public. It starts at 7PM at the County Admin Building at 75 Bayard St. in New Brunswick. Ms. Barrett should be there. There will be an opportunity for the public to address the Freeholder's board.
Please consider attending this meeting.
