[quote="Guest"]"Why is the Moon Red During a Total Lunar Eclipse? During a total lunar eclipse, the Earth blocks the Sun's light from reaching the Moon. Astronauts on the Moon would then see the Earth completely eclipse the Sun. (They would see a bright red ring around the Earth as they watched all the sunrises and sunsets happening simultaneously around the world!) While the Moon remains completely within Earth's umbral shadow, indirect sunlight still manages to reach and illuminate it. However, this sunlight must first pass deep through the Earth's atmosphere which filters out most of the blue colored light. The remaining light is a deep red or orange in color and is much dimmer than pure white sunlight. Earth's atmosphere also bends or refracts some of this light so that a small fraction of it can reach and illuminate the Moon. The total phase of a lunar eclipse is so interesting and beautiful precisely because of the filtering and refracting effect of Earth's atmosphere. If the Earth had no atmosphere, then the Moon would be completely black during a total eclipse. Instead, the Moon can take on a range of colors from dark brown and red to bright orange and yellow. The exact appearance depends on how much dust and clouds are present in Earth's atmosphere. Total eclipses tend to be very dark after major volcanic eruptions since these events dump large amounts of volcanic ash into Earth's atmosphere. During the total lunar eclipse of December 1992, dust from Mount Pinatubo rendered the Moon nearly invisible. ..." What is up with this board... why is there so much negativity??
I think to get rid of people like this or comments like this - You should have to sign in with a legit name - Then lets see who posts anymore crazy comments!!! It will not happen!!
It's NOT negativity, It's a legitimate observation.
Why do these stupid eclipses, meteor showers and other celestial events always seem to happen in the dead of night or when it's overcast?
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM??????????????????????
No go make your cocoa and get back to your Norman Rockwell picture-perfect existance.
You are right, it would be easier to see them in the middle of the day. Unbelievable the education level of some posters here.
Pardon me, professor Poindexter, but, eclipses at 4 in the morning are not very convenient for some of us. Why can't they happen around 9:00 pm?
I actually have seen a lunar eclipse or two at a more reasonable hour. Perhaps you would like to witness a solar eclipse at night then?

For people who could not make it, the photos were taken in Holmdel, NJ:

For "newbies" of Internet:
"The cartoon symbolizes an understanding of the Internet that stresses the ability of users to send and receive messages in general anonymity. Lawrence Lessig suggests "no one knows" because Internet protocols do not force users to identify themselves, although local access points such as a user's university may; but this information is privately held by the local access point and not part of the Internet transaction itself."

I ignore folks like that. They are obviously miserable people that only feel good when they put someone else down. Pretty pitiful human beings.

Just ignore those "junk" posts. There is no way to get people to register with their real name when they post junks.
